Barack Obama's aunt, revealed this week to be dwelling in a Boston slum, is living in the United States illegally, refusing to leave the U.S. for her Kenyan homeland when a judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago, the Associated Press is reporting.
A person familiar with the case told AP that 56-year-old Zeituni Onyango was told to leave America by a U.S. immigration judge in 2004.
Two separate sources, one of them a federal law enforcement official, disclosed and confirmed information about the deportation case.
Speaking to a reporter with the London Times, outside her home, Zeituni Onyango, 56, confirmed she was indeed the "Auntie Zeituni" so affectionately described in Obama's best-selling memoir, "Dreams From My Father."
In the memoir, Obama wrote: "If Jane or Zeituni ever felt ill, if their companies ever closed or laid them off, there was no government safety net. There was only family, next of kin, people burdened by similar hardship. Now I was family, I reminded myself. Now I had responsibilities."
Onyango declined to answer most other questions about her relationship with the presidential contender until after the Nov. 4 election.
"I can't talk about it, I just pray for him, that's all," she told the Times, adding: "After the 4th, I can talk to anyone."
Obama campaign spokesman Reid Cherlin confirmed to the Boston Herald yesterday that Onyango, who lives on Flaherty Way in South Boston, is Obama's aunt on his father's side.
The AP could not reach Onyango immediately for comment. It was unclear why her request for asylum was rejected in 2004.
It was not immediately clear how Onyango might have qualified for public housing with a standing deportation order.

Sweetheart...try to understand that you certainly CAN be the same age as your aunt. Try to follow along and comprehend that women in their late 40s can bear children. They can ha e one at 20 and another at 48...a twenty eight year gap. Time enough for the 28 year old to grow up and produce a child before her mother has another one.
This is not that uncommon at all. One of my uncles has a nephew about 18 months younger than he is.
Change those words and see what happens.

For those of us who thought family and religion are always the primary source of support, I guess we are wrong. The Man-Child has spoken.
Obama and his myriad kin are prime examples of a dysfunctional family.
Time for Zeituni to go home? Amazing how illegal immigrants can suck on the public nipple for years and years and years and years and how her own nephew who is not currently short of cash, wont help her. And yet, AND YET, people who are against higher taxes are selfish?! What crap. Time for Zeituni to go home!
A) Why from the work address?
B) I thought presidential campaigns couldn't legally accept money from illegal aliens?
Elderly? She is 56 and you call her elderly, I am 71 and sure am not elderly, now my Aunt who passed away 3 years ago at 100 years of age was getting elderly.
-Ayers book: Prairie Fire was dedicated to ALL"cop killers" in the US (Ayers names them) and Sirhan Sirhan - the man who killed Robert Kennedy.
I am only 9 yrs older than my first nephew and my Dad had neices and nephews older than him, he was 15th of 16 children.

Yes you can. My oldest sister's first kid was born about the same time as our mom had my youngest sister.
The ironic thing is, she’s the *least* criminal member of the entire extended family...
If there’s a child on the south side of Chicago who can’t read, that matters to me, even if it’s not my child. If there’s a senior citizen somewhere who can’t pay for her prescription and has to choose between medicine and the rent, that makes my life poorer, even if it’s not my grandmother. If there’s an Arab American family being rounded up without benefit of an attorney or due process, that threatens my civil liberties. It’s that fundamental belief I am my brother’s keeper, I am my sister’s keeper that makes this country work. It’s what allows us to pursue our individual dreams, yet still come together as a single American family. “E pluribus unum.” Out of many, one.
-—BARACK OBAMA, July 27, 2004
“That’s the promise of America — the idea that we are responsible for ourselves, but that we also rise or fall as one nation; the fundamental belief that I am my brother’s keeper; I am my sister’s keeper.
That’s the promise we need to keep. That’s the change we need right now.”
-—BARACK OBAMA, August 28, 2008
“Yeah, well - the - yeah, I think most people understand - that if you’re not - caring for your family - then - you’re probably not - the kind of person who’s gonna be caring for other people.”

Whoa, now. If she is here illegally, and if she is living in a subsidized home (paid for by the American taxpayer), then she is a problem. And she is in a subsidized apartment (paid for by the American taxpayer) that should be available to an elderly and/or handicapped American. The waiting lists for these places are usually a mile long.
It may be that she is a lovely and deserving lady, but she is here illegally. And there are thousands of lovely and deserving Americans who can't get past the huge waiting lists to get into a subsidized apartment.
What makes her more deserving than an American citizen or a legal immigrant?
If she is here illegally, then it appears that she jumped ahead in a very long line to get her piece of the pie. And that just isn't right.
BARACK OBAMA: “We are our brothers’ keeper, and I’ll be glad to be my improverished brothers’ keeper, and my impoverished aunt’s keeper...but only if the taxpayers pay for their keep.”
And the newbies on this thread are making me nauseas. ¤
I agree with you in principal. However, IMO demanding her deportation, while justified, is not the way to help win the election on Tuesday.
The only reason Obama is competitive right now is that he, his handlers and the media have woven a curtain of lies around him, creating a false image in the minds of a gullible public. We have struggled terribly to tear down that curtain.
That false image is Obama’s center of gravity, a single pillar upholding the rest of his candidacy.
This story, highlighting his lack of personal compassion and charity, attacks that pillar, as few other stories have.
Demanding the deportation of his aunt does not attack that pillar, however justified by the law.
