Barack Obama's aunt, revealed this week to be dwelling in a Boston slum, is living in the United States illegally, refusing to leave the U.S. for her Kenyan homeland when a judge rejected her request for asylum four years ago, the Associated Press is reporting.
A person familiar with the case told AP that 56-year-old Zeituni Onyango was told to leave America by a U.S. immigration judge in 2004.
Two separate sources, one of them a federal law enforcement official, disclosed and confirmed information about the deportation case.
Speaking to a reporter with the London Times, outside her home, Zeituni Onyango, 56, confirmed she was indeed the "Auntie Zeituni" so affectionately described in Obama's best-selling memoir, "Dreams From My Father."
In the memoir, Obama wrote: "If Jane or Zeituni ever felt ill, if their companies ever closed or laid them off, there was no government safety net. There was only family, next of kin, people burdened by similar hardship. Now I was family, I reminded myself. Now I had responsibilities."
Onyango declined to answer most other questions about her relationship with the presidential contender until after the Nov. 4 election.
"I can't talk about it, I just pray for him, that's all," she told the Times, adding: "After the 4th, I can talk to anyone."
Obama campaign spokesman Reid Cherlin confirmed to the Boston Herald yesterday that Onyango, who lives on Flaherty Way in South Boston, is Obama's aunt on his father's side.
The AP could not reach Onyango immediately for comment. It was unclear why her request for asylum was rejected in 2004.
It was not immediately clear how Onyango might have qualified for public housing with a standing deportation order.

The $64,000 ?? Is she registered to vote?
maybe 72 times.
You want to buy some deviates???
maybe 72 times.
I feel “very put upon” by Husseins’ lies and secrets. Interesting how auntie and granny both aren’t allowed to talk. Wonder how many other tribesmen are illegally here, including Hussein himself.
Now all of a sudden deportations have to be approved at a regional level. So now it’s ok to defy a deportation order?
“Now I was family....I had responsibilities”
Yea, like taking care of ILLEGALS with other peoples money—the way 0 likes to spread the wealth.
This is one of the top 5 stories about Obama and yet the Drive-by media is trying their hardest to make sure it doesn’t become an issue. Obama knew she was here illegally and she was ruled to be deported which makes her a fugitive and Obama guilty of harboring a fugitive.
The AP was too lazy to send a reporter to her house.
Send her to Mexico.
But, wasn't she born in Hawaii?
Obama & Co. has trotted the globe shutting everyone up, including Biden. The slum-dwelling brother and grandmother in Kenya say they can't give interviews till after the election.
What ever happened with Granny in Hawaii? I thought she was going to die before the election, the reason Obammy made an emergency trip to her with no press.
If we only had been able to elect a republican the last time.
LOL
I joined Experience Corps because
I felt that I should help the children in my community. I love people and enjoy interacting with them. My friend had so many wonderful things to say about her work with Experience Corps. Also, I was idle, and this was a chance to get involved.
I know I'm making a difference when
I see the change in children I have worked with. All children are fine as long as they have a good foundation, but there is no foundation without literacy.
My favorite part of tutoring with Experience Corps is
Being able to help children succeed. As an older adult I feel I have much to give young people - as well as my peers. Experience Corps has given me that opportunity.
Working with students teaches me
Just how much I can impact the education of children in the school system. I learn different strategies and approaches to help children and also to improve myself. In addition, being an Experience Corps member has taught me that I can be a leader in my community.
I think it would be interesting as to what type of VISA was issued for her to come to the US...visitors VISA or did she have a sponsor of a H1 or H2 visa.???
