Charlie Cook: If McCain Wins I'll Quit Polling, Go Bag Groceries
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

If Team McCain needed some "bulletin-board material"—the kind of outrageous taunt from the opposition a coach will pin up in the locker-room to inspire his troops—they got if from Charlie Cook tonight. So confident is the pollster of an Obama victory, he's proclaimed that if McCain wins, he'll go to work bagging groceries or behind a fast-food counter.

Cook was a guest on this evening's Race for the White House. It was in looking at the Electoral College map with host David Gregory that he made his super-sized pledge.

You’ll be lucky if you aren’t “missing” whole containers of food......

p.s. Maybe after the election we should flood Charlie and PMSNBC with application forms for Charlie to apply for work at a bewildering variety of grocery stores..... we want him to try for plenty of options because he may have trouble getting hired. Most grocery stores cannot afford to fill a “make work” position for such a lazy, useless sack of gerbil feces as Charlie Cook.

Nothing’s wrong with bagging groceries, unless your an elitist liberal that believes people are meant to service your needs and not vice versa.

I bagged groceries when I was in high school. I’m not convinced Cook to handle the job.

Probably doesn’t matter. If McCain wins he’d be like Alec reneging on leaving the country.

Not a dang thing wrong with bagging groceries, in fact its a much classier and noble job than a pollster.

The first thing that popped into my head was that he's Barney's boyfriend. I don't want his fat greasy hands touching my food but I'll make the sacrafice for a Mccain victory. There is going to be a lot of pollsters with egg on their face following the election. Good thing Chuck is use to that sort of thing.

Charlie needs to buy a better "rug".

It's not as bad as Pat Caddell's.

What makes him think he will get the promotion.

My maternal grandfather owned the grocery store in Pelican Rapids, MN, for years. I grew up in Montana, but I would visit each summer and knew all of the employees.

Three lessons I learned in the ‘80s working there after baseball was over for me for the summer:

1) It was fun, the clerks and other employees loved my grandfather, and I was happy to work there for free. It was "community organizing" as a capitalist would see it.

2) My grandfather was my hero to me. He owned his own store! I thought he was the richest guy in the world. Little did I know he was, but it wasn't in terms of collecting money.

3) He ran his own “charity” at the store. Can't afford to pay your grocery tab this month? No matter. It's more apt to be forgotten or traded for services once you get back on your feet.

I learned so much from my grandfather's grocery store. I still draw on it today.

After taking a look at Charlie I would venture groceries are the only thing he will ever bag.

Cook has always looked like a pervert to me, sort of a Barney Frank without the lisp but with a bad toup. I suggest that when Obama crashes and burns he accept the more logical position of handing out towels in a steambath.

Is Charlie Cook homo? I couldn’t find his bio and see if he was married. He looks a tad pervy
