Barack Obama gave John McCain another pre-Election Day gift this morning in remarks made to a Sarasota, Florida audience. After telling Joe the Plumber in Ohio that he wants government to spread the wealth, Obama told Floridians that opposition to such policies amounted to selfishness:
The point is, though, that and its not just charity, its not just that I want to help the middle class and working people who are trying to get in the middle class its that when we actually make sure that everybodys got a shot when young people can all go to college, when everybodys got decent health care, when everybodys got a little more money at the end of the month then guess what? Everybody starts spending that money, they decide maybe I can afford a new car, maybe I can afford a computer for my child. They can buy the products and services that businesses are selling and everybody is better off. All boats rise. Thats what happened in the 1990s, thats what we need to restore. And thats what Im gonna do as president of the United States of America.
John McCain and Sarah Palin they call this socialistic, Obama continued. You know I dont know when, when they decided they wanted to make a virtue out of selfishness.

Clinton said this during a Virginia governor race. Backfired royally. With Mr. Hut Sweet Hut/Slum Sweet Slum? Three times worse. What a gift!
Mr. Obama suggested that people would have called him a socialist if he shared his peanut butter sandwiches as a kid. Uh, no. On the other hand, if he took other kids’ sandwiches, ate a portion himself, and then shared the remainder, that would be reasonably properly called socialist (though more accurately communist—the term ‘socialism’ is used too much today to refer to communism).
Giving every student a "free" college education will not make them smarter or land them a better paying job because they aren't putting anything of their own into the deal. Many will sign up for the free classes and not even show up. What do they have to lose? Schools will lower standards just to move the students along with the hope of graduating them out of the system just like public high schools do now.
Giving everyone "free" health care won't make them healthy. If the government will take care of you when your sick, why struggle to stay fit. Eat, drink, and be merry for the government will take care of you. Your premiums won't go up because you aren't paying for it.
Giving rebate checks those who make less than a certain amount will only guarantee that they will never want to make more than that amount. If there is a free lunch tomorrow, why work to put food on the table today?
Socialism = Subsidized Poverty
If something is taxed, there will be less of it. If it is subsidized, there will be more. What is the effect of taxing the wealthy and subsidizing the poor?
