Maybe conservatives will get the hard slap of reality needed to get us back on track

Who is "us"?

What would "back on track" be by your definition?

What "hard slap of reality" are you advocating?

In what way are you contending that conservatives have gotten "off track"?

“That said, you make some great points.”

Like this one:

“...and keep the religious right out of politics.”

You liked that? Or was it this one that you liked?

“I believe that homosexuality is genetic and not chosen,...”

Got it, you liked this one, right?
It makes me ill that McCain has pandered to the fundamentalists in opposing adoption by loving gay parents of children who desperately need homes.

If it’s “genetic” and not just a propensity to be acted upon (or NOT acted upon),

then why would younger people have more contact than older generations?

Is this a recent genetic mutation or something?

The hard slap of reality will be 4 years of President Obama.

And yes, I’ve already voted for McCain/Palin.

On behalf of traditional Catholics, I apologize for the behavior of some on this thread. We aren’t all vicious and spiteful. Please don’t get that impression. There are many solidly religious people who don’t like the direction the party is headed.
I invite ALL of the Catholic faith here to respond. Is homosexual adoption a good thing? Should we adopt Canticle_of_Deborah's point of view here and applaud those who support the queer lifestyle? Speak up! Canticle_of_Deborah has. She apologized for us!

Back when it was Same Sex Attraction Disorder,

these people got help.

Now, society is just acting as enablers. Like having a “celebrate alcoholism” day/parade/etc.

The party nominated John McCain for President and he chose Sarah Palin for Vice-President. I’m getting a headache trying to find the civil war, group think or ostracization of independent thinkers having that combination come out of the party.

The interesting thing is that if he does live another four years, at that time he can expect to live ANOTHER 10 years.

He could very well do two terms. I’ll see in a few years whether of not I’m in favor of that.

I’m optomistic that Palin will have a conservative influence on him. He wasn’t even on my list of contenders, he was below the worst R to pick.

Yet, he picked Palin, and is the only R candidate who had to courage to do so.

I know firmly that the hateful and spiteful are in the minority. They just happen to have a particularly loud voice on forums like this.

It’s important that we continue to speak up and counter their message, so that people know we are here and strong. What bothers me most about all the browbeating that goes on is that potential voters stumble onto sites like this, and they get immediate reinforcement of all the lies about conservative hatred and intolerance that the Left tries to hang on us every day. This namecalling and viciousness is NOT the heart of the party.

So thank you for speaking out with me. :)

openly contemptuous of authority

as are most people who are angry at God. You'll see the same thing with feminists - shaking their fists at God and any other authority figure in their lives.

No from this Catholic.

You can support who you want, I suppose. But you’ll end up with a Marxist government if the GOP excludes Palin and the religious right. There aren’t enough country club Republicans to staunch the socialists tide.

No, it is not. This is an abnormal and unhealthy choice. We must have compassion for homosexuals, while at the same time recognizing that this is not a way of life that we should approve or show encouragement of.
