McCain stays on Khalidi, L.A. Times

My colleague Lisa Lerer reports that in a morning interview with a Hispanic radio station in Florida, McCain compared Palestinian-American activist Rashid Khalidi to a "neo-Nazi" and sugggested that Bill Ayers attended a 2003 going-away party for a prominent Palestinian-American activist with Obama.

“I think the whole issue of the relationship with Bill Ayers needs to be known by the American people. Sen. Obama said it was just a guy in the neighborhood. We know much more than that. I don’t care much about an old, washed-up, unrepentant terrorist, and his wife who was on the FBI Top 10 Wanted list,” McCain said on Radio Mambi, according to a pool report. “We should know about their relationship including, apparently, information that is held by the Los Angeles Times concerning an event that Mr. Ayers attended with a PLO spokesman. The Los Angeles Times refuses to make that videotape public. I’m not in the business about talking about media bias but what if there was a tape with John McCain with a neo-Nazi outfit being held by some media outlet. I think the treatment of the issue would be slightly different.”

Khalidi and Ayers were reportedly friends in Hyde Park, though it hasn't been reported that Ayers was a guest at the 2003 party. Khalidi is widely disliked in pro-Israeli circles, where he's seen as a defender of violent resistance to Israel in the Palestinian territories. But he's also a professor at Columbia University, with many mainstream defenders. A group he led was funded by the International Republican Institute, which McCain chairs, and he has always denied McCain's charge that he was ever a spokesman for the PLO. At the time of the party, he was a professor at the University of Chicago.

I thought this was established fact, not merely a "suggestion."

If the LAT won't release the tape, then McCain is free to claim anything he wants about what is on the tape. McCain should speculate that the tape shows Obama supporting Palestine over Israel, and that he lied about his relationship with Bill Ayers.

McCain should stump that all of this is true, and dare the LAT to release the tape to prove otherwise. If they still refuse, then McCain can simply say that what he said about Obama is true or the LAT would have proven otherwise.

I think -not- releasing the tape may be doing damage as well because there is so much suspicion surrounding the existence of the tape. It keeps people talking about it.

Ding-ding-ding! We have a winner. All the "I-wonder-what's-on-the-tape" speculation is better than the contents. Cover-up is always way more damaging than facts. Just ask Nixon.

Obama hates Whites, Jews, religious people, gun owners......isn’t it amazing he can be ahead in a poll of American voters?

I sent Stanton the following:
I want to thank you for keeping the Khalidi video under wraps. After all, it is just a part of the world-wide Jewish conspiracy to take over the world, and we must stop them at all costs. I am glad you are taking a stand to support our fellow Jew Hater Barack Obama win the Presidency.

But in all seriousness, if there is a second Holocaust urged on by Obama's anti-Semitism and support for Ahmedinajd, you will have blood on your hands for not releasing this tape, you Nazi.

If this really is “nothing” - Why doesn’t Obama ask for the tape to be released? It would “clear” his reputation...

...isn’t it amazing he can be ahead in a poll of American voters?Who's going to know how he feels?

He says he never heard Rev. Wright (in 20 years) speak the way we've all heard him speak. Obama only casually knew Ayers - but he had an office in the same building, served on boards with him, and helped him secure funding. And had his "kick off" into public life in Ayers apartment.

Obama says he'll protect Israel but he keeps tapes with terrorists from hitting the media. He could come clean.

If you believe the lies - rather than the facts - then he's a nice guy.

Let him prove the tape is nothing - let him request that the LA times also come clean.

Or he can request that any other person come forward with another copy of the tape. It's NOT goin' happen. YOu know it. I know it. And why? Because the tape makes him look bad.

That was a pretty obvious statement I made LOL. Good point about Nixon. Then, if you really want to ruminate on this - one would think the Dems would know this - and it is absurd to think that if Obama’s campaign WANTED this tape released (to exculpate him in the public mind) - that the LA Times wouldn’t gladly oblige them.

From that perspective, if the “cover up” is BETTER than what’s on that tape - it must be pretty friggin damaging. Hmmmm. If this were to reach critical mass, I expect an “edited” version to appear.

A friend (my McCain campaign precinct captain) and I were talking about our Fairfax County, VA registrar trying to disqualify the absentee ballots of hundreds of our overseas troops...I’d called the registrar’s office and terrorized them...my friend told me to calm down, but I reminded him that our founders put everything—risked and indeed in many cases sacrificed their lives, their families, their property and livelihoods, EVERYTHING—on the line to forge our Free Republic; thast we should not cower from the possibility of arrest and/or harm in our efforts to stop the communists...then he agreed, and later reminded me about the GOP militants who stormed the place where the 2000 Florida recount was about to be attempted in secret; our Republican activists yelled, screamed, stomped, rattled doors and casued a huge scene on national TV until the recount was made open and accountable to all...now the report is that the VA state board of elections has unanimously voted to count all the troops’ ballots IAW federal law, superseding the chickenshit state technicalities...

I wrote a polite letter to the LA Times demanding release of the information. But, given Obama's record, the contents (Obama praising an anti-Semitic, anti-American creep) would simply be icing on the cake. Who sat in the pew soaking up Jeremiah Wright sermons for two decades? Who wants to move the US closer to Iran's genocidal president without requiring him to renounce his positions, which are dangerous to the security of American citizens? If an informed voter hasn't figured out where he stands on foreign and domestic (redistribution of income), they haven't been paying attention.
