Police chief to join gun debate (Seattle's Chief - against guns - in NPR-sponsored NYC event)

Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske thinks having more guns in the community doesn't deter crime, and he plans to argue that Tuesday night in a New York City debate.
Kerlikowske will appear with leading researchers and advocates on both sides of the gun issue during the debate at Rockefeller University in New York City.
(edit)
"It's a little different forum for police chief to be in -- at Rockefeller University in New York City in an 'Oxford style' debate," Kerlikowske said from his hotel room.
"I think they just wanted a practitioner. I think they wanted a little more color added to it, a little more practical viewpoint."
(edit)
Kerlikowske said research is "clear" that the more guns in the community, the more that are in circulation for criminals to get their hands on.
"When there are more guns, there are more guns used in suicides, and more guns used in domestic violence. And where there are more guns in more homes, there are more accidental shootings, including shootings by children," he said.
(edit)
In 2004, Kerlikowske was one of several big-city police chiefs urging Congress to renew the federal assault weapons ban after it expired. At the state level, he joined Mayor Greg Nickels in urging lawmakers to require background checks on sales at private gun shows.

The US Constitution overrides the opinion of police chiefs. Of course, all bets are off if Obama-appointed justices become the majority. Best bet is to make sure he won’t be appointing anybody.

Did that dufus ever recover the Glock he left on the front seat of his car? God what a lapdog police chief for a leftist buffoon mayor! What a sitcom those two would make.

Guess what? Gil Kerlikowske doesn’t get to re-write the Constitution. BTW, didn’t this clown take an oath to defend the Constitution when he took office??? Perhaps he needs to be shown a copy of the 2nd Amendment.
Not that he’d care....for Democrats prefer to ignore the Constitution when it interferes with their plans for a New World Order.

Yabut.......go read the COMMENTS!You're right, and thank you...it's great to be reminded that there are indeed a few sane folks (in addition to me) here in Seattle :-)

Police chiefs are politicians not criminologists. They have their opinions but don't necessarily know anything useful about these issues.

Be thankful I didn’t wish you all had a major earthquake and fell into the ocean or had a nuke go off or to pull out of Seattle or or or or ya know.
Ha!

What's going on in Belltown? Used to be a fun place to spend an evening.

In a perfect Ayers/Soetero/Khalidi world, the citizens will be disarmed and the radical Leftist and Muslims will control 100% of guns, e.g. no private gun ownership.
We will then let Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakkan and George Soros decide where 90% of our income goes, after Africa is paid first.
Barry hates the private ownership of firearms, it is against one of the basic premises of Communism and/or Totalitarianism.

Too bad I didn’t learn about this earlier. I’d try to find a way in.
But I’d be thrown out, because I’d make all the sense and them none at all...

There’s a great restaurant there called Cascadia; highly recommended.
We were told not to walk back to our hotel (the Marriott on the Sound not too far away, across from the northern cruise liner berths), that it was risky after dark.

What's going on in Belltown? Used to be a fun place to spend an evening. I do my darndest to avoid downtown Seattle as much as I possibly can and so I don't know from personal experience, but I'm guessing particularly late at night it's extreme drug, gang, prostitution, and a variety of other criminal activity.

Did that dufus ever recover the Glock he left on the front seat of his car? I don't believe so, and we can count on the local "journalists" to scrupulously avoid bringing up the matter.
It's "irrelevant, old news" after all.
pffft!
