Election 2008: Arizona Presidential Election (McCain 51%, Obama 46% in Arizona)
Rasmussen ^ | Monday, October 27, 2008

Posted on 10/27/2008 7:49:58 PM PDT by MinorityRepublican

John McCain’s lead over Barack Obama is down to just five points in his home state of Arizona. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state finds the Senator leading 51% to 46%.

McCain is viewed favorably by 59% of voters in Arizona and unfavorably by 40%. Obama’s ratings are 49% favorable, 50% unfavorable.

Voters in Arizona trust their state’s Senator more than Obama on the top issue of the economy by a 52% to 44% margin. However, voters not affiliated with either party trust Obama more, 52% to 39%.

On national security and the War on Terror, voters in Arizona trust McCain more by a 56% to 40% margin. Again, unaffiliated voters trust the Democrat more on this issue, 49% to 45%.

Prior to the latest poll, the smallest lead McCain held in the state was nine percentage points back in June. Last month, McCain led 59% to 38%.

Arizona women now favor Obama 49% to 47% while McCain leads among men 55% to 42%. White voters favor McCain 56% to 42%, down from a 23-point lead in September. Hispanics support Obama 58% to 34% (see full demographic crosstabs).

Nationally, Obama continues to hold a modest but stable lead over McCain in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll.

Rasmussen Markets data gives McCain a --% chance of winning Arizona this November. The state, with six Electoral College votes, is currently rated as “Likely Republican” in the Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power Calculator.

Rasmussen Reports and Fox News Channel will jointly release a series of battleground state polls tonight at 6 p.m. Eastern, including numbers from Florida, Colorado, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia.

Electoral College projections now show Obama leading 260-163.

And Scott is a Joke. I will never forget the bailout. On Monday 80% of Americans were against it. The Business people on Fox were having a heart attack

By Thursday Scott (I assumed he changed the question and over 50% supported the bailout.

Bush won the state by about 10.5% in 2004; in the same election, McCain was re-elected with 77% of the vote. I do not believe Arizona will be this close.

This conclusively demonstrates that all these pro-Obama polls are baloney.

There is something really wrong with the input on these polls...could it be other then problems with weighting that maybe people are just being dishonest when polled? Maybe there is a real fear to answer a pollster with McCain support.

As a long-time political observer in Arizona, I agree that McCain will win, and it won't be a nail-biter.

However, I do need to remind people that Arizona has now elected a democrat governor twice in a row ... and that the historical Republican majority of this state has been significantly watered down as the population has grown due to immigration from California, upper mid-west states, and Mexico ...

Although McCain isn't really "loved" by MANY Republicans, it is a majority's fear and loathing of the Obomination that will give McCain a clear majority in this state.

This is probably the third or so time I’ve mentioned it today, but I just went into the FR archives and scanned the election 2004 live thread and some of the other ones earlier that day. There was much hand-wringing, wailing, and gnashing of teeth about how it looked bad and Kerry was going to win.

Like then, I think the Republican will poll better on election night than he is in these polls. I don’t know what the hell is going on here, and I must stress that it is possible Obama will win the election, but I do not buy the landslide predictions. Obama will not carry Arizona, nor do I think it will be particularly close.

Last month, McCain led 59% to 38%.

I don't find this huge swing in one month, plausible.

The large swing is my fault! I pushed the wrong button when Rasmussen called! Corrected it this morning by voting early for McCain-Palin! :-)

Rasmussen ran a poll in Oklahoma the same time our local pollster did and Rasmussen was off by 13 points. Our local pollster ran the poll the next week and confirmed his figures. Rass had polled way too many Democrats not taking into consideration that OK was a total red state and some Dem counties in SE OK that went for Bush in 2004 are overwhelmingly Dem and they cannot stand Obama.
