WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) -- A Washington(D.C.) jury on Monday found U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska guilty of all seven corruption counts he was charged with over gifts he accepted from an oil industry contractor but failed to report.

Jurors said Stevens, who is running for a seventh term, deliberately failed to disclose on mandatory Senate financial disclosure forms more than $250,000 in home renovations and other gifts from the oil company VECO and its chief executive officer, Bill Allen.

The jury of eight women and four men deliberated for five hours Monday before returning the guilty verdicts.

Good riddance to another dirty corrupt politician. Be it rat or Republican. I'm sick of them all.

I apparently didn’t read the album covers enough to have killed the spelling that bad.

Hey....the Frogs pronounce stuff stupidly anyway! It's not your fault. LOL

ah, well he sure got his wish, didn’t he?

Did his counsel actually advise him that he was likely to get off?

The problem is it would have to be orchestrated by Gov. Palin and that means more scrutiny upon the scandal and her.

I was surprised they went after him for such a small thing, compared to the rest of the corrupt office holders in DC etc.

Fellow Alaskans, just to irritate the MSM, vote him in. I understand that he is corrupt, but no less than the majority of the rats in congress. He just got caught.

If elected he’ll have to resign and his seat will go to a Republican, but it would rub the MSM and Democrats to no end. I’m sure the hope is for Republicans to write-in somebody else, but why give the rats the satisfaction.

The objective of the rats is their filibuster proof senate, which would be a grave danger to this great county. Why even risk it?

Thanks but no thanks. The last thing we need is for congress to turn out like California where there are term limits.

Inexperienced senators just increase the power of lobbyists to manipulate them and they are too weak to be able to make a stand.

We just have to keep our congressman honest through our primaries.

She didn’t expose it, we already knew it was there- for decades.

It’s Alaska. Stevens will either retain his seat or he’ll be replaced by someone else who is crooked. That’s just how it is.

Ce La Vies.

You’re talking about Republican Alaska, not Democrat Chicago. All the Republican politicians aren’t crooked are they? At least Palin is honest. Or is she just less crooked than other Alaska politicians?

Did you mean c’est la vie, which is ‘that’s life’ in French?

Huh? Palin has been at loggerheads with Stevens since day one, and I think she has a great anti-corruption track record. If anything, the GOP should call attention to this and to her anti-corruption actions in her own party.

I wonder if Bush will pardon him after the election just to fly the middle finger at democrats?

By the sound of it, Stevens was as guilty as sin and probably should rot in jail, but it would be almost worth it to poke democrats in the eye one last time before leaving office.

Thank God. I am sorry that he is a Republican, but he was a crook first. The weird thing is that I thought they were on hold until one of the jury members went to their father’s funeral. I didn’t think they were going to deliberate until Wednesday. Oh well I must have got the info wrong. Anyway this is good news for America!!!

Given that Stevens apparently checked 'yes' on receiving gifts...why?

Stevens has been convicted. He cannot retain his seat while in prison. If he resigns the day after the election (assuming he wins), Palin gets to appoint the person who would be his replacement.

All Palin needs to do is get in front of the cameras in Alaska, explain all that, and promise to appoint a good person to replace him if he's re-elected.

From what I’ve read he’s unlikely to get prison time and he’s said he has every intention of returning to the Senate. So all the goodbyes and good riddances may be premature.

Can you say.....Willie Brown? Over thirty years in the California Legislature....one of the most corrupt individuals to have ever served......now gone!

Just think.....if Republicans had instituted term limits (1994) we would not now have a Nancy Pelosi to deal with....a Steny Hoyer or a Jack Murtha. Yes, we would also be rid of useless Republican parasites to boot!

Inexperienced senators just increase the power of lobbyists to manipulate them and they are too weak to be able to make a stand.

Balderdash! If there's one thing this Republic needs.... it's a constant, frequent flushing of the centers of power. Politicians are much like diapers. Both need to be changed often.....and for the same reason.

Lobbyists are more easily controlled by folks who are not beholding. Boy.....do you have your head screwed on wrong!
