Obama wrote: 10) Reparations -- Given the perceived failures of the traditional civil rights agenda in bringing about racial equality in the US, a number of black commentators argue that a program of reparations is the only legitimate means of making up for threehundred plus years of slavery. More recently, some white commentators have also supported a variant of the reparations concept -- for example, the government financing a Community Reinvestment funds that would be controlled by the black community and render affirmative action obsolete. Do such proposals have any realistic chance of working their way through the political system? Would there be any legal impediments to such a broadly-conceived reparations policy?

The man is a black nationalist. He is not a liberal, Marxist, socialist etc. He uses them and they use him. They will fight it out at some time in the future.
January 1, 1863 minus July 4th 1776 equals 87 years...or if you will 4 score and 7.
Wake up America.
Every living slave should be paid reparations by every living slave owner.
My family is native American and Irish who came over in the late 1800’s. (after the civil war) We ain’t paying no more reparations! We’ve already paid enough for something we had nothing to do with.
Where's my cut.
Where's my piece of the pie?
The children of those slaves who were freed by MY family to pay up.
Why are black Americans supposed to judge themselves or their situations based on African standards? As Americans, should not blacks judge themselves by American standards? Do you judge your conditions based on the standards of another country? Do you cease to complain about high taxes in the U.S. because European nations generally have even higher taxes?
Based on your logic, a black American should not even complain about liberal Democrat policies because even under such policies, blacks in America live better than blacks in African countries.
There are far better arguments against reparations than the “better than in Africa” argument.
That's b/c slaves -- as bought and paid for property -- were investments. The truly exploited person in the last 2/3 of 19th century American wasn't the Negro slave. It was the Irish immigrant. There were ten of thousands of them. He was free. He was easily replaced. He was nobody's investment.
What about my money? They OWE me big time.
My family fought with the North to free the slaves. My family lost money and time helping fight the South for the benefit of black people.
Where’s my cut.
Where’s my piece of the pie?
The children of those slaves who were freed by MY family to pay up.
The citizens of the state of Alaska own the oil. The state leases its assets to the oil companies, then uses some of the funds to help compensate citizens for the higher cost of living in such a remote location.
Nothing socialist about that. The alternative would be for the state to sell its income-producing assets to the highest bidder, thus privatizing them. But then it would have to deal with the issue of what to do with all that money.

“Perhaps there is some meaningful distinction between spreading the wealth and sharing it (collectively, no less), but finding it would require the analytic skills of Karl the Marxist.”
The difference is that McCain/Palin want to create OPPORTUNITY for wealth, while Obama merely wants to GIVE it to those who won’t even work to earn it.
Right after the Civil War, they were given the houses, possessions and land of their former owners, what the hell did they do with it? Same as they do in every neighborhood today, vandalize the area's and destroyed all the possessions. New Orleans was a perfect example of the help they got, and they destroyed the stadium they went to for protection. They could not even clean up their own area, trash everywhere. Guess it was up to WHITEY to do that for them.
Then came LBJ "Great Society", which again took out of our pockets to give to these low life's who don't want to work. I am just so sick and tired of all this garbage. No one minds give a helping hand up, just as I would for any of my children. BUT!!!!! If they do not become productive, that is the end of my helping again. They are on their own, call it racists or whatever. I don't give a DAMN anymore. Fish or cut Bait. They are still SLAVES and don't know or don't care that they are, slaves to the system of poverty provided to them by their great Democrat Congress.
“It was the Irish immigrant”
when can I get my reparations?
The Brits owe me too!
well maybe the Dhimmicrat party needs to pay reparations since the 1960’s under LBJ and his great society put blacks back on the ‘plantation’ and destroyed the black family and turned a productive group of moral people into baby mommas with baby daddies who live off the welfare checks...
Really. Do tell?
That's not Abraham Lincoln said that was about.
“The man is a black nationalist. He is not a liberal, Marxist, socialist etc.”
But their goals and methods are the same.
Ah, but you forget, when they did so it was a legal item. You know, sort of like cigarettes are today. People howl about how evil they are yet they're still legal and the government still rakes in taxes from the sale(s).
Or I mean was this the only one? Was there others?
