Help needed identifying Vichy Republicans.

I've had enough, after watching Gerry Rivers of all people, an inveterate Obama fan, throw dirt on McCain/Palin, I think the list of traiterous Republicans otherwise known as Vichy Republicans should be assembled before the election.

Disagree, the idea that these folks can say and write and opine and undermine McCain Palin and be given a free pass because of who they are is absurdity defined.

They have earned their places, this is not a mere projection on my part, they have worked their way into Vichy Republican status and they should not be relied on until they make amends.

Smerconish was a Republican going back to college.

Mike Gallagher did a great job on him today. Smerconish made his bones defending Danny Faulkner and taking on the I love Mumia crowd. Gallagher pointed out that William Ayers has a picture of Mumia on his door.

Thanks, I never knew that about him, but to be honest I have seen Smerconish only a handful of times when he guest hosted on CNN for Beck.

I’ve listened to him off and on for probably over 10 years. I’ve never really liked him but when he came on he was conservative compared to most of the others on local talk radio in Philly.

From the little I’ve seen of him, I thought he was a Dem Union Guy who held traditional views.

I seem to recall him being really soft on the Clinton’s in the 90’s as well.

Thinking about a Palin Derangement Syndrome sufferer in the media as well, goodness knows there is a herd of writers who just went right over the top weeks ago and have not looked back.

K Parker comes to mind.

Look back into my long posting history and you will see that I supported a moderate view that included stronger border protections, the souring of the milk called jobs and a Bush type worker permit system. I also supported allowing the best of the bunch that could pass security and back round checks a path to legal residence but not auto citizenship.

This issue no longer belongs to republicans, so why ask. The dims will enact a amnesty bill as soon as it is back on the front burner in a couple years.

You ceded the issue to them.

There is no longer a party to come back to. It has been destroyed from within and without. This will become much more clear to you after the election.

The party the Reagan built is no more, and has been replaced by a bunch of warring recalcitrants who could not know how to win a national election if their lives depended on it.

Oh...I see, they are just getting a head start, seeing as they so far ahead of the curve....

I know that a McCain/Palin administration or an Obama/Biden administration will pass amnesty - Palin's comments to Univision were a loud and clear indicator that McCain still loves the amnesty bill he and Teddy Kennedy came up with. I'm not happy, not happy at all - I voted for somebody other McCain in the primaries, although I did vote for McCain last week for President.

In your eyes, perhaps I ceded the issue, but I feel like Conservatives were sold out and taken for granted (and taken for a ride).

I think you'll see just how far that gets the GOP in 2012. McCain has a slim shot at winning this time, but we'll see if the GOP can win without us in 2012.

....as for Bushes....please no more from that family....they have a history of forgetting who they crawled into bed with at the start of the party

I think it's called "rising above" -- a fine old Yankee social art, akin to dropping longtime friends and "moving on" to new, richer, tonier friends.

Which doesn't get a lot of respect in Texas.

Conservatives were sold out and taken for granted (and taken for a ride).

Affirmative-truth bump.

It's always been a (convenient?) Bush delusion that they could pull enough of the Hispanic vote to make a difference in a general, nationwide election.

They were fooled by the not-so-subtle differences between the migrants from northern Mexico ("Nortenos") that Texas gets from nearby Mexican states, and the migrants from the Mexican interior and south who are much, much "leftier", much more PRD than PAN, and much more antagonistic toward gringos and our culture. Those are the folks who flock to L.A. and put up that repugnant monument that reads "it was better before they came" -- "they" being us, the citizens of the United States.

But for the Bushes and their audience, it was always about cheap labor anyway. Everything else was secondary at best.

and if.. the polls are wrong, cooked, faux?

McCain is elected.. what then?

What does that mean for the party then?

Reagan may be dead but the spirit of what he stood for and against lives on, imo.

Too bad so many in leadership roles since him have not shared his vision for the future.

Norm.....IMO, Reagan's legacy has been severely distorted by various groups who take a quote here and there and attribute their varied and sundry political shticks to it and claim the Reagan mantle. It is likely the one thing that irks me more than anything that has occurred in the GOP, and what is even worse, is that they then attack their fellow republicans within the once strong coalition with their false mantle of superiority over the the other.

It's all wrong and totally not Reagan.....but I digress.

As to your point, I personally don't see the turnout necessary to reverse the predicted outcome, but we have a week. Who knows how many are lying to pollsters.

I have heard Rush stating the same ideas and predictions, but I think he is trying to hold the base together and run interference with the MSM efforts to suppress turnout on the GOP side.

I see more of a Bob Dole election turnout with most of the same elements of the coalition simply forgetting to vote as they have done before.

I guess we shall see in a week.

Rockefeller Rupaul-blicans and Reagan Republicans don’t mix well, never really have..

I look forward to November 5th as well.

We’ll see how socialized we are and could well become.

That's the second or third time you've gotten snide while talking about conservatives. There was also that "amateurs" crack. Care to share your problem?

Or do you really think that either a) they have a memory problem or b) we'd think you really meant that?

Come on, tell us how ungrateful the "down-market segment" of the party is, and how we ought to be licking the hands of whatever pols the Bush manor runs out, when they come around to visit our trailer parks.

Don't hold back. Tell us what you really think about conservatives. You can start with the "R" word if you like; we understand it's code, so go ahead.

“Vichy Republicans”? This rhetoric seems a little over the top.

Yeah, I still like to refer to these scumbags as... well, scumbags.

You should add Ted Stevens, Larry Craig, Paul Wolfowitz, Tom DeLay, Donald Rumsfeld, Jack Abramoff, Alberto Gonzales, Mark Foley, Duke Cunningham, and Ralph Reed.

All scumbags who have besmirched the name of the GOP.

Funny thing about the current use of the term "conservative". (perhaps not so funny)

It has been bounced around more, modified, re modified and rejiggered to conform to a variety of descriptions.

Every one of these little cabals claim the mantle of Reagan-ism yet so very few actually should or can.

That's my point, that's what I said and I've been saying it since 2001. I hope I get some credit for consistency.

Colin Powell...check

William Weld...check

Tommy Thompson...check

David Brooks...check

George Will...check

Frank Luntz...check

Peggy Noonan...check

David Frum...check

That is not an inclusive list, but we do have a new name to be added to the list:

Fmr John Boehner and Mitt Romney spokesmen Kevin Madden, turns out after Mitt folded his campaign, Madden went to work at the Glover Park Group a Democrat organization, now his smears of Governor Palin make perfect sense and brings up the worst sort of Vichy Republican, the putan Vichy.
