What about "Gay Conversion"?
Christian Post ^ | Sept. 15, 2007 | Lillian Kwon

" Change for the homosexual is difficult, but still possible, researchers of a newly released study say. "The Thomas Project: A Study of Religiously-Mediated Change in Exodus Group Participants" presents evidence that there are people who have successfully changed, or experienced "conversion," from homosexuality to heterosexuality.

The study,... "

I know that this is old, however I want to get other's opinions on gay conversion. I believe in it. However, I want to see how other conservatives feel about it. My hypothesis is that conservatives will approve of it and that hopefully, will spread the notion of gay conversion.

Be thankful they’re not trying to convert you.

Conversion is really not the proper term. These people need therapy and counseling the way an alcoholic or person with self destructive tendencies does

Today it’s all about MEEEEE!!! Gays get attention, they demand attention, they are forgiven by society for their outlandish behaviors because they’re gay. It’s the “in” thing to be gay, hence there’s more claiming to be gay.

Sexual preferences are not that difficult to alter if a person is motivated to do so. That includes those with homosexual preferences who want to grow out of them. The problem is political resistance, not clinical practise. The homosexual lobby and their colluders in the "social sciences" make this out to be the big bad boogey man but it's not.

God's love is not reserved for those who always had "everything straight!" Jesus Christ is the only Hope for Homosexuals - - or any of the rest of us!!!

Discover God's plan of salvation through forgiveness and healing. Find the hope and fulfillment that only He can give.

If you’re bisexual, and simply (literally, in this case) “choosing” to be gay, you can be converted. If you’re homosexual, there is no hope, by definition. The only successful “conversions” are the former.

As a devout male heterosexual, I certainly couldn’t be “converted” to like guys. Why would any rational person expect a homosexual male to be “converted” to go against their nature?

It is not only possible but essential if the person suffering same-sex attractions due to gender brokenness or environmental effects due to a child hood trauma like physical, mental and/or sexual abuse hopes to recover.

Homosexuality is a response to un-addressed early developmental emotional pain and from unhealthy early relationships, providing a “fix” for the pain as the young victim becomes aware of their God given sexuality.

“Acting out” can be plain old rebellion against authority and/or an emotional “fix”. Homosexuality is sex addiction and just as with the alcoholic and drug addict, acting out NEVER satisfies the underlying emotional pain.

It is a fact that the life expectancy of homosexuals from homosexual behavior and mental illness is dramatically less than their hetero-sexual counterparts.

Consider this irony, the law now acknowledges that a man or woman can willingly and legally CHANGE their sex by mutilating their bodies and poisoning themselves with hormone treatment. The masses widely accept this lie. Conversely, the individual who suffers from same sex attraction and/or addiction and seeks to be set free from the self-destructive bondage of homosexuality wants to be restored to their God given gender and sexuality and the masses widely reject the idea.

See how the devil twists truth? Homosexuality is 100% preventable and curable. A reward to the person who can disprove this reality.

In short, most homosexuality is a case of arrested development and as such treatable.

People that deny the so-called "gay conversion" should also logically deny any kind of Christian conversion.

Saint Paul said,

Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (I Corinthians 6:9-11)

It is the nature of sin itself...that is any and all sins...to be an addiction, that the Holy Spirit Himself alone can break. Homosexual behavior, and thoughts, like other wrong sexual behaviors and thoughts, are this way too.

Certainly they are deeply imprinted sinful patterns...but that does not mean they are too deep for God the Holy Spirit, by the power that rose Jesus from the dead, to set people free from.

Those who follow Christ are enabled to do so by the supernatural power of God Himself--to deny that, is to deny conversion itself, and ultimately to deny the very existence of God, and His power and desire, to save.

"I believe in it. However, I want to see how other conservatives feel about it."

Behavior can be modified but I don't know about the hard wiring of sexual desire.

I'm just glad I'm wired to like women. Maybe I could be forced to abstain from relations with women (my wife that is) but I do not know how I could re-wired not to desire women. In the same way maybe gay men are hard wired to desire men

Still in Mt:19:26 Jesus states:.. with God all things are possible.

That's a tired old excuse...there's nothing ‘natural’ about it.

Rather than get into a long and protracted discussion on the efficacy of ‘homosexual conversion’, I will simply state my opinion. It is an abject failure and that’s all I have to say on the matter.

Why would any rational person expect a homosexual male to be “converted” to go against their nature?

That's just it. It's NOT "natural" to be gay. You are equating homosexuality and heterosexuality. That's your first mistake. It's not natural. It's not genetic. It may not be something the person sought out, but that doesn't mean it's natural or genetic.

Everyone, ahem! Please. Tread gently here.
Many who fall in to this lifestyle are people with gravely damaged egos. Egos that could be damaged by: aloof parenting; a physical handicap; an in born shyness; sexual abuse; poor peer integration skills.

There are many reasons why someone may lack confidence. Some astute psychologists insist that this homosexual track occurs because the individual is never affirmed by a role model (usually same sex parents, but not always) of their same sex. It could be that they were terribly shy children unable to bond with the same sex at a crucial time. There is a narcissistic time when it is crucial to bond with and have “best buddy” relationships with the same sex. This is an affirming time. These individuals somehow miss that step. And spend the rest of their lives in relationships trying to recreate that lost moment of affirmation, never moving beyond. There is much to be gentle about here in understanding and compassion.

“Why would any rational person expect a homosexual male to be “converted” to go against their nature?”

If it's their ‘nature’ why do most of them (if you listen to their own testimony) need to get one hell of a running start go over to it? Then after they do they , in a huge number of cases, exhibit one or more destructive pathologies for the rest of their lives.

Why would God make people who's nature is literally out of phase with the world? Anybody looking at gays without the PC goggles sees people who are wildly unhappy and often, day to day, exhibiting a sort of psychological hysteria (whence, I suspect, the term ‘gay’ derives). I've seen these people in communities 50,000 strong (Fire Island Pines etc) and they are PROFOUNDLY unhappy persons. Lets not even speak of their ‘moral compass’. Suffice it to say that if you like buggering men there isn't much in the matter of personal recreation that you are going to put beyond the pale.

All people have desires or temptations that are immoral and need to be controlled in order to avoid the sins that would result from turning such desires into actions.

This includes gay tendencies, the inclination to lie, greed, sloth, short temper, etc.

Preventing such weaknesses and impulses from becoming actions is not impossible for anyone - with the exception of the mentally unbalanced.

And, while it might be difficult or impossible to force another to change his underlying dispositions, a person who is willing or desirous of change has a better shot at it.

Also, as already stated, nothing is impossible with God’s help!
