Iranian official calls for attack on UK

Fearing a US strike on Iran during President George W. Bush's last months in office, a senior Iranian official has suggested the Islamic regime should target London to deter such an attack.

Slideshow: Pictures of the week In an article on the Iranian Web site Aftab last week - translated by the Washington-based Middle East Media Research Institute - the head of the Europe and US Department in the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Wahid Karimi, said that an attack on London would deter the US from attacking Teheran.

"The most appropriate means of deterrence that Iran has, in addition to a retaliatory operation in the [Gulf] region, is to take action against London," Karimi said.

In the article, the Iranian official said that an attack might also stem from the fact that presidents in their second terms are "usually adventuresome."

Citing some examples he said: "US presidents are usually adventuresome in their second terms... [Richard] Nixon, disgraced by the Watergate scandal; [Ronald] Reagan, with the 'Irangate' adventure; [and Bill] Clinton, with Monica Lewinsky - and perhaps George Bush, the sitting president, will create a scandal connected to Iran's legitimate nuclear activity so as not to be left behind."

He speculated that a US attack on Iran could come between next month's presidential election and when the new president enters office in January 2009.

This would be a BIG mistake for Iran. The EU would notice the smoke cloud and immediately form a committee to think about mumbling some mean words at Iran.

Besides, London is mostly muslim anyway!

How can this be? Haaretz says the US and Iran are going to be buddies now:

http://haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1031246.html

Several American media outlets reported on Saturday that President George Bush is likely to announce after next month's presidential elections that he intends to restore the diplomatic relations with Iran, almost 30 years after they were suspended.

Quoting U.S. civil servants, the reports said that Bush's decision to postpone the announcement until after the elections was meant to rid the two presidential candidates of having to deal with the controversial move.

Apparently Ahmadinejad is in ill health lately according to various news reports.
True or not, that could hasten his 24/7 watch for his hidden imam.

A cornered rat almost always is. With any luck he will croak before he can do anything.

The Brits barely escaped through the channel and were pounded night and day by the Nazis. They had steel nerves....back then. Now the leading political parties want to be “buds” with the Muslims for appeasement purposes.

I'm not sure that is the case. The Brits may be slow to respond but when they do Iran may have to kiss it's ass goodbye. You can only push people so far.

Having said that, If Obama gets in all bets are off.

You are correct but I think that is wearing thin with the rank and file. Time will tell.

There are those that say Imanutjob is the puppet and his masters are those crazy Imams. Who knows! What is known is if he attacked London, the lights would go out for good all over Iran about 20 minutes later.

I'm sure the Imams can find another Iranian crazy to fill his shoes. And the beat goes on.

"The most appropriate means of deterrence that Iran has, in addition to a retaliatory operation in the [Gulf] region, is to take action against London," Karimi said.

One little problem Karimi, London has nukes. In submarines. Might be one off your coast right now. But even there is not, they can still turn your country into a glass parking lot with it's own glow in the dark lighting, from dockside if need be.

I believe that as well. So the question that needs to be asked is why Iran is posturing. I think I know the answer. I'll bet you know the anwer as well.
