Udalls ahead in Colorado, New Mexico Senate races

Running for seats now held by Republicans, both Democrats have commanding leads as their party tries to approach a filibuster-proof 60-40 majority in the U.S. Senate. In New Mexico, Tom has a double-digit lead over Republican Rep. Steve Pearce. And Mark is well ahead of former Rep. Bob Schaffer in Colorado with less than two weeks until the election.

No one disputes that the climate favors Democrats enough to boost their congressional majorities by wide margins. Their confidence is reflected in what Tom Udall says is a request he's already made to Senate leaders for a seat on the coveted Appropriations Committee.

Usual bias in the article, and the arrogance of Obama seems to be catching.

Can you say, “Dingy Harry is going to have a veto-proof Senate?” I know you can.

Yep. The Democrats are supremely arrogant. They are so sure they'll never lose this year.

60 isn’t veto proof, just filibuster proof. They need 67 for a veto override.

Let’s elect McCain so he can veto everything and just shut the beast down. McCain plus 34 Reps who will hold the line in the Senate and we can make sure nothing gets done!!!!

If McCain take Colorado, in all likelihood Schaffer will win too. This is all smack talk from the Commies at AP.

What can a weakling like McCain do versus a veto-proof Rat majority in both houses. He will fold under pressure and he will be blamed for every ill the country faces.

I am starting to wonder if its better to let the RATS run the ship for the next four years and screw things so bad that people will yearn for the next election so they can vote for the Palin/Jindal ticket in 2012 (assuming the country survives that long.) A side benefit would be that Hildabeast could be locked out of the presidential picture forever.

For the next four years of a RAT government, boycott ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN. Just watch FoxNews. Cancel the paper. Get your news online. Remember how bad the country needed Ronald Reagan after four years of Jimmuh Carter. Sarah will definitely be ready in four years and now that she knows how the media will attack her, she will be ready.

Yes, but Carter did irreparable damage during those four years. We'll be paying the price for his evil (yes, evil - not stupidity) for generations.

There's no way in hell they're getting 60.

The Dems will pick up Virginia, New Mexico, Colorado. Probably North Carolina, New Hampshire and Oregon. Possibly Minnesota and Alaska, depending on the verdict. If they win every one of those, which I think is almost certainly not going to happen, that still only gets them to 59 seats assuming you count Joe Lieberman.

They'd still have to shoot the moon and win either Georgia or Kentucky, which I think is extremely unlikely.

The GOP current state has much to do with the base joining in and running down President GWB for the past two years....and doing so publicly. This gave the impression to "independents" that it was the Republicans to blame for everything.......To these uninformed masses seeing Republican GWB run down by all sides created the false premise that it was the GOP fault on issue after issue.

We are paying the price for that now. This along with the complete ineptness of the RNC/GOP PR staffs to put together any effective, aggressive and systematic TV ad campaign taking the facts to the DEMs/MSM. From energy prices to Freddie and Fannie to minimum wage increase causing higher unemployment..... The GOP did not hang one of these issues around the necks of DEM leadership.

The Udalls are cousins to Oregon Senator (RINO) Gordon Smith.
His mother is a Udall.

certainly. I was just trying to make the point that with McCain as prez, he really can put a halt to the liberal wet dream that is going on. Him actually doing it is another story. He probably won’t run for a second term, so he’s pretty free to do as he wishes.

The last time a poll came out showing a Schaffer lead was early February, 2008.

Schaffer's campaign released a poll last week showing him down 5 points as a way to indicate the race is closer than assumed.

He could still win, but the odds are heavily against. The last several independent polls have him down 7, 11, 14 and 10 points, respectively.

I don’t think so. Bush took Colorado pretty easily in 2004, but Coors lost to Salazar pretty handily the same election. Republicans have one major fault in that we always give our primary nomination to the next one in line. Bush I, Dole, McCain (he came in 2nd in 2000), and locally Schaeffer. Conservatives love Schaeffer but he is not well known or liked by the 67% of Colorado that is not Republican. Many Republicans here don’t even like him after what happened in 2004. Republicans and more conservative independents will vote for him, but there are lots of grudges and for many the attitude is to get past 2008 and move on to the next election - where Marilyn Musgrave is next in line.

In Colorado it’s transplanted Californians to blame - not actual Coloradoans.

Yeah I wish people in the title would point out it is an AP story which means pure propaganda. The good news is newspapers are going broke and are cancelling the AP’s “news” service to save money.

Keep dreaming. Obama will flood America with millions of illegals from Africa and the Middle East. The union workers who vote for Obama will be replaced by ACORN, SEIU and thord world workers. This is exactly what the Labour Party did in England. England is done, over, finished. 1,000 years of civilization down the tubes in 15 years.

ACORN/SEIU/CAIR will run the elections in 2010 and they will probably be cancelled in 2012.

Fox News is already turning on us because they believe the “Obama is gonna win crap.” I loathe RINOs and have been banned from FR for bashing them before. I am a Conservative BUT any conservative who thinks - “well lets lose and we will get a Reagan in 4 years” is dreaming.

We get McCain-Palin elected and we fight with them like wild cats if they try to screw us.

Excuse me? It’s not my fault that Republicans in New Mexico only get to vote once.
