LICATA: You mentioned common-sense gun legislation. Would you consider the assault weapons ban and registration of guns to fall into that category of common-sense gun control?[Emphasis added].
SENATOR OBAMA: I think those are two separate issues. I think that when it comes to the assault weapons ban, the answer is yes. I think AK-47s generally are not used for hunting. AK-47s or vest-piercing bullets are generally used to hurt people. And I think that it's legitimate for us to say military-style weapons that aren't traditionally used for purposes other than killing people, we've got to be careful about. But I'll be honest with you. I'm more interested in enforcing the laws that we do have-for example, tracing guns that are used in crimes back to people who have been using them. I don't anticipate that there's going to be a whole slew of efforts at the federal level when it comes to gun control. But I think that strong background checks; making sure that we're dealing with the gun-show loophole, which I think has been a problem; allowing us to trace guns that are used in crimes back to where they were purchased--those are the kinds of initiatives that I think pose no threat whatsoever to law-abiding gun owners.[Emphasis added].

The interview covers many topics besides gun control. The whole thing starts at: http://www.fieldandstream.com/article/Hunting/Special-Report-An-Exclusive-Interview-with-Senator-Barack-Obama
Regarding gun control, no one can no claim lack of knowledge. Obama clearly stated that he wants a renewed AWB; that "gun-show loophole" garbage is all about destroying the right to privately buy and sell your own property; "tracing guns that are used in crimes..." is a code-phrase for gun registration (and we all know the next step after that).
Last, "those are the kinds of initiatives that I think pose no threat whatsoever to law-abiding gun owners." What a bald-faced LIE. "Law-abiding" depends entirely on what the law is at any particular point in time. If Pelosi and Reid get AWB II through and put it on his desk, and he signs it, then perhaps mere ownership of a semi-auto AK or AR-15 clone will be "illegal," and you'll then automatically cease to be "law-abiding." Then those "initiatives" DO IN FACT pose a threat to you.
This creature MUST be defeated. Please email this to all of your pro-gun friends and relatives, and to those sitting on the fence. Post it on gun forums, etc.
You left out the futile attempt at “fingerprinting” ammo, which would make it extremely expensive and hard to get.
If he gets in with that Congress we will lose Gun rights right and left.
Hey Obama numbnuts! The Founding Fathers didn’t give us the 2nd Amendment to hunt squirrels! The 2nd Amendment is so that We The People can rapidly form a well armed militia in the event that our government strays from the U.S. Constitution. In which case, we need to be armed with the latest and greatest fire power available, and not armed with just multi-shot “muskets!”
I’d like to mention that hunters and fishermen/women are conservationists -— as in conserve and protect for future use.
Environmentalists are parasites plotting to confiscate our rights to a future.
Just Left.
Let's not forget that reloaders are the original recyclers.
“Common sense gun control”
Is that like “commonsense free speech control”?
Or even like “common sense privacy control”?
The second ammendment isn’t about hunting.
I know plenty of people who have AK-47’s and they have NEVER hurt anyone...
This is just trash.
Time to buy a silencer before the tax stamp goes up...
“Tracing guns used for illegal purposes” is aimed at driving gun manufacturers out of business. The more go out of business, the more guns from the remainder will be used in crimes (they think). It is an exponential effect aimed at wiping out LEGAL guns. They ONLY want LEGAL guns banned because they are the guns that will take their power away from them one day. Illegal guns are not a problem because the motive of the users is not to keep and resecure liberty. IOW, guns in the hands of real AMERICANS scares the shit out of them.
Correction. We will lose no rights whatsoever. Obama's government will infringe on them and the time for us to affirmatively exercise those rights will be at hand.
During our last Democrat
There is no doubt in my mind that if Obama is elected he will, in concert with the rat-controlled legislature, put severe restrictions on Second Amendment rights. He is a down-the-line hard leftist. He will go along, for now, with the Supreme Court decision acknowledging the individual right to own a gun. But he and his rat cohorts will slap on every “reasonable” regulation and restriction they can to make such ownership as big a burden as possible in order to render gun ownership as meaningless as possible. And once they get the courts good and packed with like-minded leftists the individual right to own a firearm will be taken away as well at which point will come registration and confiscation.

Common sense gun control
Is that like commonsense free speech control?
Or even like common sense privacy control?
Yes and Yes
Why do you need an assault weapon? First, I never heard of one. We didn’t call them that in the Marine Corps. It was a rifle there. Now I have a semi-automatic rifle.
Hey lefties, here is why:
1. Remember the LA riots post Rodney King? Many store owners had one thing between them and raging, pillaging mobs.. .an AR-15 rifle with hi capacity magazine. A six shooter or .22 bolt gun just won’t cut it. And no, the police were not there to help.
2. Remember Katrina? Ditto above except you tried to confiscate the only thing that was saving their lives and property.
3. The first thing a tyrannical government must to do control a population is take away guns from the citizens. Or perhaps take away any gun that seriously could challenge their tyranny. “Assault weapons” are these guns. They can manage shotguns and .22 rifles just fine.
4. The same above applies to protect us from foreign invasion.
5. They are perfectly good sporting, hunting, and target weapons.
6. Finally, I believe every law abiding should be trained and own an AR-15!
Memories, pressed between the pages of my mind
Memories, sweetened thru the ages just like wine
