This is one of the coolest things I've seen in a long time: movie footage of London shot in 1904. This clip is an excerpt from a 12-minute long video that was made as a travelogue to lure visitors from Australia. It is a fascinating and all too brief glimpse into the vibrant, teeming London of Sherlock Holmes:

Cool! I often wonder what it would be like to live in a city where all of the horse power is fueled by oats.

Wow. The quality is very good.
I'd love to see the entire 12 minutes.

Horse drawn double deckers and your usual camera hams.
Excellent!

That is absolutely amazing. It's so clear and perfect, it almost appears fake. I mean the guy with the moose-stache looks right out of central casting.
Stunning stuff.

Remarkably well preserved footage given it's age. Very natural too - both in the lack of posed shots and given the fact that the camera was almost certainly hand cranked.
Loved the double-decker horse drawn bus right at the end.

Great footage from a lost time! That toddler in one scene could be still alive today, around 106 years old.

Cool! I often wonder what it would be like to live in a city where all of the horse power is fueled by oats. Not so great. Smelly and squishy, mostly. There's a reason New York brownstones were built with their entrances a half-level above the street.
