CNN: We ‘Botched’ Sarah Palin's Interview
Newsmax ^ | October 24, 2008 | David A. Patten

Stop the presses — CNN is taking responsibility for falsely stating that National Review magazine called Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin “incompetent, stupid, unqualified, corrupt or all of the above.”

“I think ideology has now overridden any kind of journalistic ethics at all,” Fox News host Bill O’Reilly told his audience when he learned of the distortion. “And I think that’s the bottom line here.”

An interview with Palin that aired Tuesday on CNN’s The Situation Room touched off the controversy. CNN correspondent Drew Griffin twisted the meaning of a National Review column during a question he posed to Palin about whether her message is reaching the public.

Griffin’s question: “Governor you’ve been mocked in the press. The press had been pretty hard on you, Democrats have been pretty hard on you, but also some conservatives have been pretty hard on you. The National Review had a story saying, ‘I can’t tell if Sarah Palin is incompetent, stupid, unqualified, corrupt or all of the above.’”

Palin immediately asked, “Who wrote that?”

Griffin stammered, “T-that was in The National Review. I don’t know who wrote that.”

“Who wrote it?” Palin replied, obviously concerned. “I’d like to talk to that person.”

On Thursday, Griffin appeared on two CNN programs, "Newsroom" and "Situation Room," to confess the error.

Said Griffin, “I never really explained the point of the National Review before she finished answering the question. “In no way did I intend to misquote The National Review.”

Griffin also said, “Unfortunately, my question — I botched it.”

That wasn’t a mistake that was an INTENTIONAL MISREPRESENTATION...a 3rd grader could read the article and know what he presented was not what was wrote.. he didn’t make a mistake he intentionally misrepresented. The press is so far in the tank for Fauxbama its rediculous..

They are trying so badly to turn an on his best day a squeaker candidate and turn him into a landslide candidate its insulting.

Fauxbamas best hope was for a squeaker victory, the press in their attempts to turn him into a landslide candidate are setting their squeaker candidate up for a solid defeat.

The network news media will try to recover their credibility soon, when the outcome of the election becomes obvious. We'll start seeing balanced coverage when it can no longer make a difference.

Don't let the b*stards get away with it.

It was a blunder. But Drew Griffin is the only fair-minded reporter on CNN. He reported on Obama/ACORN, he reported on Obama/Ayers.

And in the Palin/Griffin interview, and here's the Video

At the end when Sarah Palin says that if she was as gaffetastic as Biden, the media would be all over her, Drew Griffin actually says 'YOU'RE RIGHT.'

So yes, CNN sucks, but Drew Griffin is ok. He just messed up.

So Griffin acknowledges he understood the York article, yet let Palin squirm with phony slanders from conservatives?

That's the nugget to be taken from this.

-- In no way did I intend to misquote The National Review. --

He really means he didn't think he'd be caught red-handed. The mischaracterizing of the article was complete before Governor Palin interrupted to ask the author's name.

Don't let CNN recover any tiny bit of credibility. Sometimes the report is accurate - that can happen by accident.

CNN likes to Larry King conservatives. I’m surprised they acknowledged anything before the election. They rank right up there with MSNBC in credibility.

Absolutely no way that this was a mistake, I don't care how many times the say it was.

The MSM News reporters are nothing but hacks for the Democrat party and no longer worthy of the wasted time of watching.

I think he’s a he but I understand your confusion. It’s hard to associate having a set with most people in the MSM.

“Unfortunately, my question — I botched it.”

Yes, it would appear so. What I don't understand is why the press has to preface a simple question with a paragraph of commentary and bias, loading the question with their opinion or other garbage. Why not just ask the question and be done with it? We want to know what your interviewee has to say, and I for one, don't care a whit for all the prefacing and lead-up to every single question.
