Obama, who arrived on his campaign aircraft around 7:20 p.m., immediately traveled under police escort to the Punahou-area apartment of his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who is reportedly gravely ill with cancer.
After an hourlong visit, the Hawaii-born senator left for the Hyatt Regency Waikiki.
Obama expects to leave tonight and return to the campaign trail in Nevada tomorrow

Every situation is different. It depends on many factors and I think it is a mistake to be judgmental about this aspect of the story. My husband needed to be alone with his family when his father passed. My family wanted my husband with my father when he passed. I drove to my grandmother's bedside while my husband stayed home during her final days. Every situation is different and I see no upside to second guessing people in these situations.
Yeah, hip.
From when she got thrown under a bus..
The story makes ZERO sense — think about it, How does an 80+yo, with cancer, AND a broken hip safely use the restroom at home? With a (non-medically trained) relatives help? BS. She doesn't. Grandmom is EITHER not as ill as we are lead to believe OR she is not being cared for respectfully or humanely. The Christian-side of me hopes the former is the case -- the cynical, and rational side of me suspects the later... if the cynical guess is right -- it prompts the question -- towards what end do you keep a dying woman in a cramped Honolulu apartment with out proper care when you could EASILY afford to put her in a very nice, very caring hospice?
If I had been married and had kids they would be with me out of respect. Michelle The Angry is doing the rallies for him today. She's also a cold b*tch.
At least “Stand up Chuck” Joe took a couple of days for his mother-in-law. An Hour! Unfreain’ believable!
Best line of the thread. Barack Hussein 'Johnny Fairplay' Obama. Get Johnny Fairplay in on this. He is one of the most ambitious self-promoters in the history of reality TV. When presented in this fashion I see the upside: mocking the Devil.
“After all the hubbub about his visiting his dying grandmother and he stays for an hour then leaves???”
Where does it say an hour?
From the article:
“He is expected to spend most of today with Dunham, 85, and has no public appearances planned.”
I think people need to be careful with this issue as it could backfire.
Wow, she is at death’s door and is still at her apartment, only warrants a 1 day visit. Things that make you go hmmmm.
Very. It’s not far from the Halukalani where we stayed for our 25th anniversary. All those hotels on Waikiki are more than “nice.”
Yes but probably closest to grandma.
IF he had spent most of a day with dear, old Grandma, he of course would have had police escort, protection. But none of that was reported — so no matter what the Article said, he didn’t visit her for a day. Or else it would have been SPASHED ALL OVER THE BIAS NEWSPAPERS.
The truth is that he probably saw her only for an hour.
After all, she is white, and he hates his whiteness.
Is the the Hyatt Regency Waikiki nice ?
I hear the lobster hors d’oeuvres are to die for.
Missed that - nice catch.
:o)
I was just making a statement, not a judgement. That’s what I meant by “just the way I am”..
Maybe they were at home buying funeral outfits at the thrift shop.
More like a 1 hour visit.
OK, I am as anti-Obama as they come, but I would NEVER leave a dying relative either in the hospital or a hospice if they wanted to be at home. I am “untrained” and would (and have) care for that person in the comfort of their own home.
Pick some other part of this stinky story to discuss. Leave Grandma alone. Let her be where she is most comfortable.
