Mary Mapes Gloats About Pending Obama Victory and Demise of Free Republic
Friday, October 24, 2008 | Kristinn

Mary Mapes, the former CBS News Sixty Minutes producer who lost her job in the wake of the Rathergate scandal has published an essay entitled The Monster is Dying at the Huffington Post celebrating the pending victory of Barack Obama and the demise of her conservative internet tormenters, including Free Republic.

Mapes likens the domination of conservatives and the McCain-Palin campaign to Fifties sci-fi flicks where the mad scientist gets it in the end but the pretty female assistant survives.

Mapes, who was fired after forged documents were used in a Sixty Minutes hit piece on President George W. Bush in September 2004 in an effort by CBS News to undermine Bush's re-election bid, mocks Republicnas for using "phony" imagery and "bogeymen."

An excerpt from Mapes' gloat-fest:

Americans aren't responding to the old plays -- the fake fears, the faux outrage, the conservatives who yell "Communist" at the news cameras, the pompous right-wing bloggers who once held such sway.

I know all too well how scary and effective these old tactics were in 2004.

Today, they are toothless.

Ha, ha.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing once swaggering players like Powerline, Free Republic and Little Green Footballs forced onto the sidelines, left to limply watch this campaign pass by like a parade in which they play no meaningful part.

They just don't matter anymore.

I would think if Obama is elected the FR and Limbaugh and others will become more popular. Remember the Clinton administration? Kind of a loyal opposition type role.

People that vote for president just to make a point about others, rather than for the best candidate, are only displaying ignorance.

“Americans aren’t responding to the old play — the fake fears, the faux outrage...”

If this is true, Ms. Mary, your guy the ONE is in trouble.

FreeRepublic is one of the few signs of intelligent life on this planet and we are not going anywhere!

Yes, good to add that: she appears to have been lacking in scruples either way!

...using the government to silence dissenting opinion on the airwaves and the internet.

Only if we let them win.

Why am I not surprised that a fagged-out old bulldyke like Mapes would support a crack-smoking homosexual Muslim street-thug from Chicago?

I seem to recall the same gloating from the left when Clinton won, with them asking Rush if it was a repudiation of everything he stood for and would he be irrelevant. Hmmmm...who still has a job? In fact, who’s more successful than ever?

Colonel, USAFR

HAHAHA! Sorry, Mary. It's not Free Republic and the conservative blogshpere that's irrelevant, it's the New York Times and YOU. Free Republic's numbers have never slipped the way the Times' have.

Face it honey, you're a dinosaur. Chew your cud while you can, and never mind that meteor ...

How could anyone possibly close down any site like FR?! They would have to shut down the internet, and stop the first amendment...im thinking that would cause some problems...
