I got Polled by Quinnipiac
Telephone call | 10/24/2008 | Me

Posted on 10/23/2008 6:31:47 PM PDT by Saab-driving Yuppie

Quinnipiac called our home last night and they left a message. I didn't call back but they called again tonight around 8 pm eastern.

They asked to speak to either the oldest person in the household or the one whose birthday is next. On both counts, that's me.

She (African-American-sounding female, calling from CT, sounded in her 20s or 30w) asked me if I had a few minutes to take a survey on current events or something like that. I was dealing with a needy toddler so this may not be 100% dead-on.

She asked me if I was a registered voter, a likely voter, etc. Next she asked me if I was voting for SSeantor Obama the Democrat, SEnator McCain the Republican, or some other candidate. I said McCain.

She asked me if I had favorable or unfavorable impressions of Obama, McCain, Biden, and Palin, in that order. It was always Senator McCain, SEnator Obama, etc, and Governor Palin (hough Palin came up but once).

She asked me what I tohught the most important issue was and I gave it (economy) and then asked me who I thought was best suited to deal with Congress on the issue (McCain).

She asked if I approved of the job Bush was doing and if it was strong/weak approval/disapproval.

She hased if I considered myself a D/R/I. And if I was lib/mod/conserv.

She asked if this was my first time voting in a presidential election, if I voted in 2004, and for whom, all in separate questions.

She asked about which party, if any, I voted for in the primary earlier this year.

Then we got into some questions about democgraphics: married, racial, religous, born-again, Catholic/Protestant, educational attainment, income level in the household.

Elapsed time, 6:32.

I've given surveys before (not political ones) and she played it by the book, though I may have picked up some annoyance when I first said McCain.

OK, so I got polled, the question is whether it'll get counted and weighted properly.

For the record , called ID came up New Haven CT with the number 203-582-3050.

In case you’re wondering, I played it straight, though I wish now I’d told her I was a Dem or that I’d voted for Kerry.

Quinnipiac is a university in Hamden, Connecticut, just North of New Haven. Their polling institute saves money by hiring their students to make the calls. The woman you talked to was in all probability a student.

It will get counted. The scam is in who they call.

You were much more honest than I was. I was called several weeks ago by a machine. It may have been Rasmussen. I claimed I was a black female voting for McCain and said I was making half a million dollars a year.

Prior to that I had a live person call. I asked if I got paid for my information. I was told no and then I asked if the callee got paid. She answered yes. I said they had the wrong business model and hung up.

"African-American-sounding female, calling from CT, sounded in her 20s"

DJ Drummond has been doing some extensive analysis on why he thinks the pollsters just are so "off" this year, and part of his analysis is that ALL these pollsters are located in the Washington/NY/East Coast beltway; that they all (likely) employ liberal kids to do their polling; and that invariably this taints the samples, no matter how careful they are.

I called the number. It’s, apparently, a Q poll. No answer though. Just a number given to call if you do not wish to be polled.

Well, they have my number. Maybe they will call.

Call the number!

And that helps how? To suppress the vote of the R side?

” Next she asked me if I was voting for SSeantor Obama the Democrat..”

MSNBC always states Obama’s name first-always.
Does the positioning of a candidate’s name influence the answer from the person being polled ?
Do the pollsters alternate the placement of the candidate’s names ?
If so-what checks are in place to insure that the pollsters are actually alternating names ?

I haven't been polled in a while.

On the other hand, I'm not dating anyone, so it figures.

I think it’s to get the Dems overconfident so they don’t bother to go to the polls on election day, then we all show up and McCain wins while making the pollsters look stupid for getting the info so wrong.

I too was polled recently (last night) by Research 2000 (if I remember correctly) almost the same exact script.

Don’t mean to sound prejudiced but I believe I was polled by an African-American sounding woman as well.

She was very polite and did her job and I wished her a good evening, but I wonder if they are using a large number of African-Americans to do the polls it will really create a Bradley effect?

Goofing on the polls is always fun. I’m often a black, union guy, with a HS degree, single, catholic, non veteran, making less than $35K ... voting for McCain.

This twist their data so much it’s worthless

I got polled yesterday. It was a state poll about our Senate race.

Also, tonight, I got a poll about tv watching habits. I was fine with taking it until they wanted to send me some tv show to watch.

LOL! I’ve had the same response to market researchers, though not on political pollsters. I’ll have to try that!
