White House spokeswoman Dana Perino defended President Bush on Thursday from attacks leveled by his party's presidential candidate, John McCain.
In an interview with the Washington Times, McCain attacked Bush and fellow Republicans on a variety of policies the Arizona senator said he would have handled differently.
“We just let things get completely out of hand,” McCain said.
Asked about the comments during the daily press briefing, Perino said, “the president stands by his policies. The president believes that Republican Congresses got a lot more done than the current Democrat-led Congress. He supports John McCain, and he still believes that he can and should win. And he'll continue to support him until Election Day.”

Honestly I don’t know what Perino’s problem is. McCain rolled over for Bush’s bailout, and we know they’re totally in sync about shamnesty.

On Huckabee’s Fox program, over the week-end, a Canadian woman stood up and praised President Bush and, if I’m not mistaken, asked why Republicans talk so negatively about President Bush.
If anyone has her comments I would love them!!

Because for the last few years he has been pandering to the Dems! He stood up for Paulson, Obama, and RATs at the meeting against Boehner and McCain. Don’t know what you have been seeing but Bush has not been on the side of conservative governing.
No, I don't agree with Bush's amnesty or bailout or even how he went about taking out Saddam (I believed a more Afghanistan approach would have worked better, but hindsight and armchair quaterbacking...). However, they hhave been better than the Clinton years all things considered. I would shudder to think how that nutcase Al Gore would have handled 9-11 or John Kerry the last 4 years... Bush has lots of faults, but nothing like Gore-Kerry ones would have been.
I think you misinterpreted that paragraph and statement by McCain to be an attack on President Bush.

He actually was sticking up for him and putting down the democrats.

Perino is not confrontational in any way.
Part of politics is that politicians will run away from other politicians...and really, McCain made great points.

They would do better telling the American people the truth about the Democrat Congress seeming to delight in blocking any control over Fannie Mae & Freddie Mac back when Bush, McCain and the Republicans tried to pass a bill that would have avoided it all. - People need to have this hammered home in plain English until it is driven home. Rest assured, if Obama wins and the Congress stays controlled by the Democrats, history will be rewritten to pin the blame on “Bush” and the Republicans. McCain needs to lay off “Bush” and recognize just WHO THE BLAZES HIS REAL ENEMIES ARE and just who are the incompetent boobs in Washington - and it is NOT “Bush”. (We do NOT hate Bush as much as the media and the Democrats do.) If McCain does not wake up about about the reality of the Democrats and quit skewering the Republicans in order to show how much of a “maverick” he is (at the expense of his friends), four years with him isn’t going to be a walk in the park either. (I’ve already voted for him, an don’t regret it, but he needs to wake up.)
