Poll: Voters Against Obama 'Wealth Redistribution' Plan

POLITICS, MCCAIN, OBAMA, BIDEN, PALIN, DEMOCRATS, REPUBLICANS, ELECTION

CNBC.com | 23 Oct 2008 | 12:06 PM ET

Washington, D.C. – Election Day is only two weeks away, and as John McCain and Barack Obama make their final pitches to “close the deal” with voters, a stunning new ATI-News/Zogby poll shows a clear majority of undecided voters disagree with Obama’s plan for wealth redistribution in America.

“The major issue on voters’ minds right now is the economy, and the major voting bloc on candidates’ minds right now is the undecided voter,” said ATI-News president Brad O’Leary. “Our poll results show that undecided voters overwhelmingly reject Obama’s economic plan to redistribute wealth.”

The poll surveyed 1,214 likely voters nationwide and was conducted October 17-20. It has a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percentage points.

ATI-News/Zogby asked likely voters: “John McCain and other critics say Barack Obama is heavily influenced by people and organizations which seek social justice through redistribution of wealth in America. Do you agree or disagree with efforts to bring social justice by the redistribution of wealth?”

By a more than two-to-one margin, undecided voters disagree with such efforts to redistribute wealth. In total, 57 percent of undecided voters said they disagreed, while only 24 percent said they agreed (19 percent are not sure).

A majority (52 percent) of self-identified Independent voters also disagree with efforts to bring social justice through wealth redistribution. Only 39 percent of Independents agree (10 percent are not sure).

“In his candid conversation with ‘Joe the plumber,’ Obama made clear that his main economic goal is to redistribute wealth, not strengthen and grow our economy,” said O’Leary. “This is pure socialism, albeit thinly veiled, and it does not resonate with hard-working Americans who would rather keep their money than have Obama redistribute it to his favorite constituencies.”

O’Leary also noted that Obama’s tax welfare plan, coupled with his goal of raising barriers to free trade, “makes for a toxic mix that could drive America’s economy into a prolonged depression.”

“Obama isn’t the second coming of JFK,” said O’Leary, “He’s the reincarnation of Herbert Hoover.”

Even more would be opposed if people were accurate and started saying income redistribution instead of wealth redistribution. What Obama calls for is taxing the pre-wealthy

************

Personally, I prefer ASSET REDISTRIBUTION because it includes everything — income, accrued wealth from other sources like inheritance, etc. ASSET redistribution sounds very very frightening to me.

“Spread the Wealth” system creates “Lazy People.”

“Lazy People” have a habit of wanting more from the government.

This system will lead to generations of “Lazy People.” We do not want or like “Lazy People,” not in this country and not in other countries.

A lot of people support “spreading the wealth”, because they think it’s “fair” and doesn’t cost the economy anything. In fact, you can’t “spread the wealth”, without winding up with less total wealth in the economy.

More accurate terms would be: “destroying the wealth”; or “spreading the poverty”.

Funny the poll numbers aren’t in the headline and you have to read several paragraphs to get them.

Sounds about right when about 84 percent oppose socialism.

This stat just stunes my beeber. 43% want or would consider wealth redistribution. I never thought I'd see the day.

Would love to know how many of the 43% pay taxes.

Are they aware that Obama intends to "spread the wealth around" globally, not nationally?

Good point, possibly a tad too precise for polling "undecided". Poll did mention "Joe the plumber", so in the context of Obama's response ("Spreading the wealth"), it asked the question with the understanding of "redistribution of wealth" meaning higher taxes on certain "high" levels of earned(?) annual income. In other words, poll was not deliberately worded or designed to be misleading, as many media polls are these days. You may be right that numbers against would be even higher if we assume that polled "undecided" would think about the precise meaning.

See the new “I Am Joe” ad, based on homemade videos sent in to the McCain campaign.

Yeah, the morons still plan to vote for Obama.

Yeah I am one of those "morons".

Maybe I recover some of my retirement money under "socialist" "muslim" "wealth spreading" Obama HUSSEIN, after wall street crooks stole it with blessings of Bush/McCain gang!

And after they stole it the Gov bailed them out for your tax money.

Enjoy Socialism for the rich and croocks while you can, cause when they take away your double trailer you are going to screem like a pig.

When “Joe the Plumber” asked the “visitor”, Obama, a simple, sincere question; Obama took one look at the big man who stood before him and got irritated. Irritated that someone so “insignificant” in Obama’s estimation would dare to do anything but bow at the altar of “The One” and ask some fawning non-question, Obama gave Joe a cursory, petulant answer that came out in a moment of irritation, petulance, condescension that Obama would have been better served to have postponed until the election had been held to indulge himself in such clear snobbery.

Most real Americans do NOT want a Communist solution; and the likes of Ayers and Obama aren’t smart enough to convince us we do. May the Lord help us when the freeloaders outnumber the producers. - Then we can never produce enough to satisfy the supposed “downtrodden”.

McCain/Palin WILL WIN! The undecided are going to break very heavily towards them.

Yeah, there is very few of "undecideds" now, especially those "undecides" who lost their IRA, their future and their retirement thanks to Bush/McCain policies. Do I hear "privatise Social Security now" putting the retirement funds it in Stock Market?McCain and Bush idea.

Better make an appointment with your shrink on Nov 5.

Voters Against Obama 'Wealth Redistribution' Plan

I do not need to hear, or to care for Obama HUSSEIN 'Wealth Redistribution' plan.

Bush/McCain gang "redistributed" my IRA and retirement alright You all voting for McCain are the "shipple" now.

You either live in trailers, or you never had any money to "Invest".

Barrack HUSSEIN Obama is not going to tax me, cause I do not have much left, Bush/McCain cronies (deregulation, does it sound a note?) stole most what I had, so there is nothing to tax from me by Barrack Socialist, in fact I am going to vote for him hoping that he will tax the rich and crooks, so perhaps I will recover some money stolen from me.

I am for "redistribution of stolen money".

And if you did not lose any money in you r IRA, that means you did not have any to begin with, but you still have to worry about your double or triple or single trailer you are living in unless you,ve got it paid off and free and clear. LOL

They reject welfare which is what Hussein’s “tax cuts” actually are. Transfer payments from producers to non-producers.

Yeah right: transfer the wealth from producers and taxpayers to thieves and crooks.

That's what Bush, McCain and their cronies did in last 8 years. Then they are trying to scare Republican shipple to vote them in again, cause if "the rich are taxed", averybody is going to lose their job. The only pathetic answer for all the problems US is facing.

make an appointment with your shrink for Nov 5 now.
