Peggy Noonan had to cough up her Sarah Palin fur ball sometime, I suppose. We heard it coming, but had hoped that Noonan would suppress it by drinking deeply of that gracious political civility she's selling in her newest book, Patriotic Grace. Instead, her Oct. 17, Wall Street Journal column, "Palin's Failin,'" disgorges Palin with all of the civility and grace one finds in the kitty litter.
On her book's back cover, Noonan echoes some clichéd sound bites from the upper chambers of political punditry such as, "If I am right, we must change not only the substance but the tenor of our political discourse."
Noonan wants to stop the "negative, partisan old school campaign tactics," and "the verbal and personal attacks" that threaten our Republic. It's a wonder that without this book, our nation "on the brink of collapse," survived the "tumultuous," "brutal," and "revolutionary" presidential election of 1800.
If Noonan is seriously promoting civility in American political discourse (which is fine and dandy), and not just book-peddling, how does she explain her superficial and boorish criticism of Palin's candidacy as "the symptom and expression of a new vulgarization in American politics."
Vulgarization? Surely Noonan isn't implying that Palin has campaigned in a coarse, gross, lewd or profane manner.
Unless Noonan's been preoccupied promoting her book on the Space Station, and missed the lefts' "vulgarization" of Palin and her family, which is surely among the worst in political history, why isn't she whacking their knuckles instead of Palin's?
Noonan's subtext isn't subtle: "What is it she stands for? After seven weeks we don't know." Even so, Noonan takes readers gently into Palin's good night.

The change of life has not treated Peggy kindly...
Noonan’s become virtually unreadale lately. Her columns blather on, going from one tangent to another, often never coming to a point. Even on her good days she has about 300 words of insight to spread out into an 800 word column.
She is kind of an elitist anymore. She hangs with the wrong crowd and her perceptions are colored by them. IMO
I've thought for some time now that Noonan is, deep down, a feminazi who shows her true colors at last.
Even RUSH said yesterday that Peggy has lost her mind.
Too bad, I hope she enters a nursing home and stops writing.
Noonan has forgotten everything she ever learned from Reagan.
Noonan is no better than the liars getting a paycheck from the Ny Slimes or ABCNNBCBS.
In fact Peggy, who is paying you to slander Sarah?
Peggy, get off the stage. You have worn out your welcome, you ugly/whining B$tch.
Rush was saying the same thing yesterday.... these people want to be associated with their version of the “right” people....smooth talkers and no “funny” accents I guess....
Do not buy NOONAN’s book. There is no better example of Political Grace than Sarah Palin.
Wish you well Sarah.
If Ronald Reagan, God rest his soul, were still alive, I believe he would verbally bitch slap Ms. Noonan, Ms. Parker and all the other self important pundits of the right for their HORRIBLE treatment of fine conservative.
Dutch, we sure miss ya’.
Noonan is the perfect example of an inside the beltway cocktail party person.
We knew how she felt with her MSNBC debacle at the RNC.
She values style over substance.
But we have seen Mrs. Palin on the national stage for seven weeks now, and there is little sign that she has the tools, the equipment, the knowledge or the philosophical grounding one hopes for, and expects, in a holder of high office. She is a person of great ambition, but the question remains: What is the purpose of the ambition? She wants to rise, but what for?
For seven weeks I've listened to her, trying to understand if she is Bushian or Reaganitea spender, to speak briefly, whose political decisions seem untethered to a political philosophy, and whose foreign policy is shaped by a certain emotionalism, or a conservative whose principles are rooted in philosophy, and whose foreign policy leans more toward what might be called romantic realism, and that is speak truth, know America, be America, move diplomatically, respect public opinion, and move within an awareness and appreciation of reality.
But it's unclear whether she is Bushian or Reaganite. She doesn't think aloud. She just . . . says things.
I am deeply disdainful of people who deliberately speak in a low, barely audible voice in order to affect the manner of a “deep thinker”.
I’m sick of Noonan and her whiny calls for civility.
There is no civility on the other side.
You do not bring a butter knife to a gunfight.
Peggy RINOONAN...............
Peggy was for years my favorite political pundit by far. I thought she was thoughtful, erudite and generally on the right side of the issues.
Her smears of Palin, though, are beyond the pale. I don’t really care if she doesn’t like her - that’s certainly her business and her right - but the fact that she’s hitting her from a transparently and unapologetically elitist point of view is disturbing. She seems like so many others of her ilk to be interested far more in being invited to all the right cocktail parties than in being right.
Very sad.
This is a good slam at Peggy and she’s earned it.
The elite RINOs are dying. Good.
In 2012 we’ll have a Palin/Jihdal ticket. Two reformers that don’t give a rats *** about what the elite of either party think.
I used to rate her columnhighly but when I hear her on radio she’s slow and incoherent.
Noonan has forgotten everything she ever learned from Reagan.Peggy Noonan learned nothing from Reagan.
