Hillary Clinton: Sixty is the magic number
www.hillpac.com ^ | OCT 21, 2008 | Hillary Clinton

Posted on 10/21/2008 8:42:22 PM PDT by Maelstorm

Sixty is the magic number. If we reach 60 Democrats in the Senate, then the days of Republican obstruction are over. With Barack Obama and Joe Biden in the White House and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, there's nothing we can't accomplish.

But we can't reach 60 if these three Democrats don't win their extraordinarily close races: Mark Begich up in Alaska, Jeff Merkley in Oregon, and Mark Udall in Colorado.

I need these three Democrats working side-by-side with me on the Senate floor to accomplish the goals you and I set out -- rebuilding a strong middle class, health care for every American, and ending the war in Iraq. Barack Obama needs their help to reach a filibuster-proof majority that will end GOP obstruction once and for all.

Feeling the pressure with only two weeks before Election Day, Republicans have stepped up their attacks against Democrats. They're putting everything they have into these races, and our candidates need to match their efforts dollar-for-dollar.

They're tight races where the polls have them tied or within striking distance, and your decision to support them right now could make the difference on Election Day. Join me today and help Mark, Jeff, and Mark win.

Click here to make a contribution directly to Mark, Jeff, and Mark's campaigns.

These are some great candidates who need our help. Mark Udall has been a leader on clean energy issues in Congress and is running a great race for an open seat in Colorado -- now held by a Republican.

Jeff Merkley in Oregon is the son of a sawmill worker who was the first member of his family to attend college. He's running against the entrenched incumbent Gordon Smith, and now his race is right on the knife's edge. Your contribution could make the difference.

Mark Begich is a lifelong Alaskan -- he's the first mayor of Anchorage actually born in the city. He's is working hard to unseat Ted Stevens, who is facing corruption charges back in his home state.

These three great Democrats are all within striking distance of victory. With just two weeks to go, now is the critical moment in their races. If you contribute to their campaigns today, you could be making the difference that gets us to that magic number of 60 votes in the Senate.

Help us build a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate and end the Republican obstruction. Contribute to Mark, Jeff, and Mark's campaigns today!

As we're celebrating a new direction for our country on November 5, with a Democratic President and a filibuster-proof Democratic Senate, you'll be so proud to know that you helped to make the difference. Thank you so much for your hard work -- we are almost there!

Sincerely, Hillary

It could be like FDR after his re-election in 1936, and LBJ after the landslide in 1964...except that Obama is much further to the left than either of them, and the Democratic Party is much further to the left than it used to be.

Obama's first order of business is to sweep away all restrictions on abortion, which will probably result in the government trying to force Catholic hospitals to perform abortions or close, and hospital employees to cooperate or lose their jobs (no "conscience" exceptions).

The 1973 Supreme Court decision on abortion was like the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which made slavery a pressing issue (it was the reaction to that act which led to the creation of the Republican Party). Obama's intended "Freedom of Choice Act" would be like the Dred Scot decision--something intended to end the controversy by giving total victory to one side in the debate. Whether it would work or not is unclear--but the pro-abortion forces would be in control of all three branches of the federal government and most of the media.

I’m still trying to figure out what is in this for Hillary?
Supremes? God forbid.

Bill for head of NATO?

Chelsea for Interior?

Keep thinking. It gets worse.

Biden for Pres if something happens to Hussein?

Rangle for head of State.

Wexler for Treasury.

Nightmares go on and on. But some of this could happen.

The GOP’s Congressional leadership this decade has been simply abysmal. In particular, Frist and Hastert were both well out of their leagues. But it seemed that no one in the GOP was willing to stand up and ask them to stand DOWN in favor of more capable leaders.

“they will have no where to hide once they make complete jackasses out of themselves and cripple this country. It will be all on their heads, and they won’t be able to blame the Republicans.”

Don’t be so sure. They’ll go back to the Gengrich revolution or the Reagan era if they have to, but they’ll surely blame Repubs. Tax cuts and deregulation, that’s what destroys economies, don’t cha know?

With a 60/40 Senate and Hillary as Majority Leader, it will be Hillary who is President no matter who resides in the White House. Even if it's close, say 57/43, she would absolutely rule.

A 60/40 Senate would also mean that there would be way more deal making than a 50/50 Senate. Not good.

I think Hitler was appointed because Hindenburg was senile at the time, and wasn’t very sharp, politically speaking, in his prime, anyway.

Exactly.

I cruise "PUMA" sites occasionally (and as a result have learned a lot about Obama's caucus antics), this is an email Donna Brazile (she was either Gore or Kerry's campaign mgr) sent to Hillary supporters who protested:

From: Donna Brazile @brazileassociates.com>

Subject: RE: Switching to Republican Party - I'm a Hillary supporter

Date: May 7, 2008 7:48 PM

Honestly, this is the 9th email today, so I believe you're ready to not only destroy Roe versus Wade, voting rights, civil liberties and civil rights. Perhaps adding trillions more to the deficits through non stop tax cuts to the wealthy and 100 more years in Iraq.

Yes, please join Rush and McCain asap. The train has left. Catch it.

Please don't send these emails to working people like myself. Notice you sent it to my campus address. I am a working class person. Can you find someone who drinks latte?

Message to the base: stay home.

Stay home ? To a Dem supporter ? Amazing.

Hillary was magnificent in nearly defeating Obama. She WOULD have defeated him but for the caucuses his followers stole in the early stages of the primary.

And now she has come to this - a maid servant/accessory to Obama.

The Democrats will pick up seats. This is a tough election for us in the Senate. We have a bunch of folks stepping down, the climate is hostile towards Republicans, and we have more seats up. They will get Virginia and New Mexico. Probably Colorado too. Maybe pick up another one or two here or there. I’d be shocked though if they get to 60. If they do get to 60 then the election must have been a gigantic landslide and BHO is probably our next president. 60+BHO would be a nightmare.

You forget about the press, they’ll twist it so it will be the Republicans fault no matter what the DEMONrats do. I have not voted for a rat for a long time, and won’t in the future.

The sociaist party of america (Demonrats) have all the media outlets that most of the sheeple use, talk radio is not as large in coverage, but just enough to make the rats green because they know that when enough of the american people hear the truth of the rats goals for america, they always loose.

I really hope the that the american people use their heads when in the voting booth and vote for the only qualified candidate running, John McCain/Sara Palin.

The worst part it was totally unnecessary. Bad or not some one dropped the ball at the NRSC. The first thing they did wrong was not raise enough money. That is just being lazy in my opinion. When they saw less big donations they should have started an aggressive small donation campaign. I think we have a chance in Colorado. If McCain manages to pull the state back from the brink we just may hold that Senate Seat.

Perhaps. A march on Washington, surround the Capitol and demand their resignations?
