How to beat the Obama $$$ advantage, Help needed
John McCain ^

Posted on 10/21/2008 7:19:06 PM PDT by fooman

Bookmaestro and I have managed to recruit few a dozen friends to make hundreds of calls for the McCain campaign. It is actually quite easy to do from your own home and does not require travel to a 'call bank' by going to:

www.johnmccain.com/dashboard

You can make a hugh =) difference. A short script provided by the campaign (which you can improve on over time) makes this easy. The McCain site provides the numbers to call and you provide the time. At the end of the call you can quickly note how the call went, which will no doubt help the campaign focus resources.

Frankly, I am surprised at well the campaign has kept this resource hidden.

A few tricks of the trade may help to make it easier for you.

- Stress that you are calling as an unpaid volunteer (I have found particularly useful to mention the Obama $$ advantage) - Use your own words as much as possible over time - Send key articles, mention the freerepublic website and encourage engaged people to help make calls - Listen carefully to the person's concern(eg small business owner, defense, transport worker) and be able to respond appropriately (eg lower taxes, missile defense, energy) - Call in battleground states (eg CO, VA, NH, PA, NM and OH) - Stress that the polls are close (eg we are only down one point in the latest battleground poll)

TOPICS: Activism/Chapters; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: campaign; mccain; obama; phone; telephone; volunteer

What we need is to start our own robo calls for Wright. ;-) Yes that is a very good idea and if you don’t want your number connected just get a VOIP number.

I would absolutely love to do this, but with 4 noisy kids at home, I am afraid they would think I was calling from the asylum!

I live in a two bedroom apartment. I call CO a lot after they go down. Even you do five calls, it is something.

I’m already on the left coast. I’d have to call Hawaii. LOL.

Perhaps he’ll just “spread his wealth around” to John McCain..

Not bloody likely. He only wants to spread YOUR wealth around.

I've made hundreds of calls for McCain, and the results I got were absolutely encouraging. I was calling voters in Florida. I am in NC.The things I heard some of the "older retirees" say about Obama, I can't really repeat here, lol.

I got the bright idea to do the same thing "for Obama" so I signed up at his website and got numbers. I made several calls, close to 100, and the things I heard "democratic voters" say about Obama, well, I can't repeat them here either. I was given numbers in NC to call. Most of the people I called initially live near me and I knew some of those names well. I called the Obama numbers and used the McCain script with them.

I'm going to try to make several hundred more calls for McCain up until election day.

Everyone around says it looks as if Obama will win. Well, I just can't accept that, and I won't even if he does. Obama winning just doesn't match what I am hearing from these calls. I am going to continue to pray over this election, pray over the callers I make contact with and ask that their hearts and ears be tuned in to truth and not hype.

I did alter the McCain script, but not the message only so I could flow more freely when speaking. I wanted to sound as natural as I could.

I was enthusiastic when I called and very respectful when asking for a moment of their time, saying I understood they were busy, etc...

I listened and responded respectfully, factually, and empathetically.

I love doing this from the comfort of my home, and close to my PC so I could come to FR whenever I needed answers to something...

We try to sign up the engaged callers to have a multiplier effect.

Great idea. If they would just call five people, and their five would call five, and so on...Thanks for the idea.

Question: do you find that, generally, you are speaking to ‘the choir’? Sometimes I wonder about all the time spent calling other Republicans, who, for the most part, plan to vote for McCain. It’s those who have swallowed Obama’s drivel that need to be converted. So how do we handle that challenge..?

I don’t want to discourage anyone from making calls, but at the same time it would be nice if people would learn how to use leverage. You can only speak to one person at a time, but it’s possible to do things that can speak to thousands or millions.

1. Go to a BHO appearance, ask him a tough question, and upload it to Youtube. A “good” response would get millions of views.

2. Discredit reporters in an attempt to pressure them to report the truth about BHO. When forced to choose between their credibility and supporting BHO, most will choose the first.

Not always. Sometimes they just hang up. Sometimes they are indies that can be persuaded.

Mostly they are conservatives that think we are much further behind than we are.

That is why mentioning the polls is so important. I pick the closest LIKELY voter poll I can find these days.

Well, the thing of it is, even the choir has to get out and actually...vote...so even if that is all that is being accomplished it still is something.

I'm working 14 hours a day at a solar power start-up, hoping to make my stock options worth something while I watch my 401k melt into a 201k. Sigh. Some days it doesn't seem to be worth the effort to chew off the restraints to get out of the bed in the morning.
regards,
