Unusual $5 Million Grant from Tax-Exempt ACORN Affiliate to ACORN Central Organization

We're not sure if this is improper but thought it unusual enough to get it out there in the blogosphere.

First, some background.

ACORN, that is, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is a nonprofit Arkansas corporation that is not tax-exempt. ACORN likes not being tax-exempt because that means it doesn't have to give much in the way of public disclosure. It carries out its activities largely through its affiliates. One of its affiliated organizations is the American Institute for Social Justice Inc. The Institute is tax-exempt so it is required by federal law to disclose a great deal of important financial information in its annual tax return which is called an IRS Form 990.

The Institute disclosed at Statement 3 on page 20 of its 2006_990 form that it provided a $4,952,288 grant to ACORN, the non-tax-exempt Arkansas nonprofit corporation for “community reinvestment.”

It might not be illegal but it is certainly unusual for a tax-exempt entity to provide a grant to its non-tax-exempt parent organization.

ACORN is a strange organization.

but I'd kill for Hillary to be our next President.

There's not a dime's worth of difference between Hillary and Obama. Her speech to ACORN in 2006:

SOCIAL JUSTICE: ACORN’s 2006 National Convention

That was so nice, oh, thank you all, thank you. Good Morning ACORN.

My goodness, this place is filled. All of you coming together on behalf of a progressive agenda for our country; and I came first and foremost to say thank you. You know, I am one of those who remembers the beginnings of ACORN in Arkansas all of those years ago. The headquarters for ACORN was near the Governor's mansion. And I started a group called Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families and we worked on a lot of important issues and I noticed just the other day that the minimum wage was raised in Arkansas thanks to ACORN and the Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families.

In the ‘real world’ its called money laundering through a shell front.

Nothing new here. And yes, its usually considered illegal.

I wonder if it’s activities fall under RICO somehow? Wouldn’t that be a bite in the a$$... specially since Kennedy was the guy most responsible for expanding RICO (and then using it against Right-to-Life orgs).
