The presidential race in West Virginia continues to hold steady as John McCain leads Barack Obama 52% to 43%, according the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey.
The latest poll is little changed from September, when McCain led his opponent 50% to 42%. The Republican also had an eight-point lead in the state back in June.
McCain holds a dominant lead among unaffiliated voters in West Virginia, 57% to 36%. He also leads 55% to 42% among men and 49% to 43% among women.

Some good news.
Also, West Virginia borders western Pennsylvania. I wonder if that is a factor in McCain’s strategy.
It should be, after Murtha’s “racist” and “red-neck” comments.

One would hope. John McCain has spent a lot of time in Pennsylvania. He wouldn’t be there if he had no chance of winning.
How are they doing in North Virginia?
“How are they doing in North Virginia?”
Not very well, I’ve read. But I may be wrong about that. There is a hotly contested House race in northern Virginia that I’m still hopeful about.
Almost Heaven, West Virginia...
AWESOME NEWS! Would be willing to bet that Coal Country is going for McCain the way the AFL/CIO is acting. Now if we could just oust Rockerfeller in WV, it would be icing on the cake!
I didn’t believe the polls with Obama close or ahead.
WV is now GOP (or BLUE) on the Presidential level.
just like that magic PA poll that has the race within two that “fell” via leak into public hands.
I suspect the internal poll leak was to keep the race under the illusion of closeness in order to keep Obama viable.
The reality might be mccain is ahead or gaining, either one is bad for Obama. (and his fundraising)
