When a black republican like General Colin Powell endorses a major liberal figure like Barack Obama, it is amazing to see racial vitriol stop at lefty websites like Daily Kos:
Powell didn't just decimate the McCain campaign rationale, however. Powell also offered up an endorsement of Barack Obama in the strongest possible terms, saying that Obama would be an "exceptional president" and that he had the capacity to be "transformational."
The amazing part of all this is that Powell still considers himself a Republican. While there will never be an excuse for his role in supporting the Iraq war, one thing does seem clear: Powell's endorsement today will be a boost for Barack Obama's campaign, and therefore a good thing for this country.
How sweet of Daily Kos. Back in April of 2004 Daily Kos's love did not extend at all for General Powell. In fact, it was downright nasty:
Uncle Tom Powell Stumps for Massah Bush
Yes suh! Yes suh! Right away suh!
Mr. Powell sir, you are a liar and an apologist for a crooked regime known as the George W. Bush administration.
Charges of "RINO", "limp-wristed republican", "Rockefeller republican", and "squish" are likely among the names to be thrown at Powell from the conservative base, but John McCain has been receiving that treatment from the conservative establishment too.
However, unlike liberal references towards black republicans, those names are not racially negative, and if Powell had endorsed McCain, one can bet Daily Kos and others like them would have shot out the same racial slurs from their 2004 webpage.
It should be noted, that former FCC Chairman Michael Powell, General Powell's son, is a McCain supporter. So, like many other black McCain supporters, unlike his dad, Michael Powell will likely be the continued target of racial slurs from the left.

Yeah, all the vitriol came over here.
The internet is funny that way.
Turncoats never have trust or respect from anyone.
Nope, sorry, not even close. "Judas", "Backstabber" and "sellout" come to mind......
And former FCC Chairman William Kennard (also black) is an Obama supporter.
This makes me remember a very nice African-American woman I worked with who told me that Colin Powell and Condi Rice weren’t “really black” after they were assigned to posts in the Bush administration.
The thing that cracks me up is that many of the societal problems we have stem from big cities. Who has run big cities for the longest time? What have these folks in charge done over the last 40 years? It think we know the answers to these questions...
Powell knows O’bama is a Marxist.. which says more about Powell than about Obama.. Powell is now and always has been a sleeper liberal in the republican ranks.. An affirmative Action General and weak link.. He should be cut off at the knees.. and pushed over a cliff in his wheelchair..
Benedict Powell.
I never did like or trust Powell after the first Gulf War. When Bush selected him I was very disappointed, and when Powell resigned I was delighted to see him gone.
He just can’t be trusted. (JMHO)
Exactly. Benedict Arnold gave the enemy the plans for West Point for a position in the British Army............
Not true! Some will speak well of Powell, but he is looked
on as an opportunist by many and Still as an “Uncle Tom” by others.
It’s unfortunate that Powell has caved in to his desire to be appreciated by the Left.
Do you think he even thought about the future transformation of Israel if Obama wins? A "smart" Tom Brokaw might have asked about that subject.
Wasn’t Michael Powell the arcitect of the “Chill Wind” that Tom Robbins compained about?
And now that Zero’s been “briefed” on national security issues, just imagine what he can give away.
Gee...ya’ think being set up by Cheney/Rumsfeld/Tenet to be a stooge at the U.N. in Oct.2002 has anything to do with it?
Breitbart has an article about there being a place for Powell if Obama wins. I think that says a lot.
From now on he is to be called daddy Tom.
