“Any respect that I have had for Colin Powell has been flushed down the toilet. In the past he had a reputation as a “soldier’s general”. Since leaving the Army however, he’s apparently been taking sips of the liberal Kool-Aid. And now the Kool-Aid has taken effect. His brain is gone. He is now assimilated by the liberal collective.”

If it were in my power, I would permanently strip Powell of any rank he held in the military. I my opinion, he has dishonored the uniform and broken his vow to defend the constitution. His idiotic actions have just made it difficult for any other military officer of color to serve effectively without being looked at askanse by his soldiers. He has helped fuel a breakdown in military discipline in a time of war by supporting a candidate whose very candidancy is causing racial tension in the military.

The military must be a team without racial tension....Obama’s candidancy has done irreparable harm (win or lose)to that team. This whole mess makes me sick to my soul.

My post has nothing against Moslems, and neither has John McCain or the GOP. They have stayed so far away from any such sugestion about BO, in fact I think McCain has denounced it - that for Colin Powell to say the Republicans are running a campaign based on claiming barack obama is a moslem - Colin Powell deserves zero respect. Powell is lying or an idiot. take your pick.

I guess when Pesident Bush fired him...he got mad and decided to get even. He obviously stabbed Bush in the back lots and lots of times when at state....and Bush stuck with him. Wonder what he finally did to cause Bush to fire him?

Powell was elevated to his positions of Brigadier Gen. and SOS due to the color of his skin. What could we possibly have expected?

Does Powell believe that a moslem is unfit to be president?

Powell is merely spouting the talking points that were spoon-fed to him by David Axelrod.

Sad that his public career has come to this, that he could slander McCain and so many others, but that’s what it is.

Colin Powell has proved that, in the end, for him skin color trumps all.

Perfect post, bears repeating.

Powell pulled off a disgraceful fragging of his “friend” John McCain as well as America. He should be ashamed of what he as done.

Skin color is thicker than personal character.

Actually, I believe that it is even more crass than that. Powell -- whose income is dependent upon his influence -- has just cast his lot with the polls.

This is called "trying to be on the winning side" -- an unprincipled cop-out, by an unprincipled lout.

Interesting that Powell himself would gratuitously raise the Moslem question. It seems to me it legitimizes the McCain campaign publicly struggling with the whole Moslem, Black Liberation Theology can of worms, simply to answer Powell. Obama can't want that to happen, he's been running from those issues the whole campaign. Inquiring minds want to know, and the American public need to know, where does the truth lie in Powell's statement?

“We have been asked by the Justice Department, those who are conducting this investigation, to make ourselves available for any purpose that they have,” Powell answered. Promising to cooperate fully, Powell added, “We are doing our searches in response to the letter we received yesterday, and make ourselves available. I’m not sure what they will be looking for or what they wish to contact us about, but we are anxious to be of all assistance to the inquiry.”

No one in the press corps knew it at the time, but if a newly published account of the CIA-leak case is accurate, Powell knew much, much more than he let on during that session with the press. Two days earlier, according to Hubris, the new book by the Nation’s David Corn and Newsweek’s Michael Isikoff, Powell had been told by his top deputy and close friend Richard Armitage that he, Armitage, leaked the identity of CIA employee Valerie Plame to columnist Robert Novak. Armitage had, in other words, set off the CIA-leak affair.

At the time, top administration officials, including President Bush, were vowing to “get to the bottom” of the matter. But Armitage was already there, and he told Powell, who told top State Department officials, who told the Justice Department. From the first week of October 2003, then, investigators knew who leaked Valerie Plame’s identity — the ostensible purpose of an investigation that still continues, a few months shy of three years after it began.

My son is an Army veteran of Desert Storm. I gave Colin Powell the benefit of the doubt however my son did not, my son was right as you were.

I lost my respect for Colon and Schwartzkopf during Desert Storm.

Remember how the troops came back with mysterious diseases that nobody knew what it was? I believe they chemically attacked and Colon and Schwartzkopf covered it up, and it's still covered up.

Powell’s version of “informing himself” appears to consist of the NYT, LAT, Time, and Newsweek, along with ABCNNBCBS. He not only ought to know better, he absolutely DOES know better, based on his own experience.

Why doesn’t he just change parties? That would be more honest.

for what I understand, Powell sent out feelers that was leaving sometime in Bush’s second term. Bush then wanted Rice at State and essentially told Powell that the change was going to be made sooner than Powell wanted.

“He is no more a Republican tha Edwin Brooke was. Why he remains in the party is a mystery. His animosity may run just past Bush and company.”

Powell was a bureaucrat who was well served by multiple Republican administrations, who were more than happy to have a diverse face on the military leadership and help his career.

Loyalty goes one way for him apparently.
