Loathing Sarah Palin: The Two Months Hate of feminists
Weekly Standard ^ | 10/27/2008 | Joseph Epstein

Posted on 10/19/2008 9:31:11 AM PDT by mojito

The liberal women I know--and most of the women I seem to know are liberal--loathe Sarah Palin. They don't merely dislike her, the way one tends to dislike politicians whose views are not one's own, they actively detest her. When her name comes up--and it is they who tend to bring it up--their complexions take on a slightly purplish tinge, their eyes cross in rage. "Moron" is their most frequently used noun, though "idiot" comes up a fair number of times; "that woman" is yet another choice. A wide variety of adjectives, differing only slightly in their violence, usually precede these epithets.

Liberal men don't show the same fervent distaste for Governor Palin. They are more likely to say she doesn't come close to being qualified for the job of vice president and is frightening to contemplate as president. They might add that his choice of Sarah Palin is a serious sign of John McCain's flawed judgment, or of his political opportunism. The standard phrase "a heartbeat away" may come up. But then they let it go. They don't take Sarah Palin so personally, so passionately, as their liberal female counterparts do; the element of anger isn't there.

They don’t like her because she epitomizes everything that they have, for thirty years, espoused but never attained.

It's GUILT. The source of the rage is guilt. For decades they've been saying that controlling their fertility is all that stands between them and domestic slavery, that children who are "defective" should be culled, and that any failures on their part are due to male oppression, and being treated like sex objects.

Now here is Sarah Palin, rising to the top despite her fertility, despite the fact that men most definitely perceive her as a sex object, caring for the child that they would have culled... and doing it apparently with ease.

She makes them look like failures.

The fact that men readily accept the idea of a woman, a conservative woman, for Vice President twists their innards mightily! RAGE RAGE RAGE - GOTTA PUT THEM IN A CAGE!

That's putting it exceedingly kindly.

It’s called ‘protecting one’s turf’. The feminazis have had their own way for over 30 years-be any measure a long run of power and influence. They see Sarah as a rising juggernaut that they must defeat before it catches any steam and momentum. Once it does it will become unstoppable and their whole way of life will be destroyed.

Considering that Gov. Palin is the epitome of what feminists claim to support and uphold, it calls into question what they REALLY believe? Clearly, they do NOT believe that women can achieve the kind of accomplishments that Gov. Palin has without a LOT of affirmative action, liberal government-sponsored programs to “help” her obtain the very status that she has. It is the fact that she did it on her own, as a conservative, without feminazi and government assistance that has them so unhinged.

After all, they have been brainwashed into believing that conservatism is truly a mental disease.

Of course, when you see a liberal woman, it is clear why they NEVER look in the mirror - they can’t stand the image looking back at them.

I don’t hate Palin. I hate McCain for picking a running mate who was so clearly a cynical choice and NOT qualified for the Vice Presidency, much less the Presidency.

He gave away this election, when he could have won it. I really thought he had more sense than that.

The author ought to get to know more conservative women. His admitted “most women I know are liberal” seems a bit suspect, and could lead to an incorrect view of women on the whole.

In short, he needs to get out more.

Otherwise, he’s right about the vitriol.

“Yes, well, I’m trying exceedingly hard. ;^)”

Your comments have made me smile. These liberal women screaming hatred towards Palin is the same crap that women have had to deal with since grade school or before. As women, we know the most vile, dishonest and disgusting attacks on us as women will come from other women. In my opinion, it is sheer hatred and jealousy of all that Palin is and all that they aren’t and will never be. They’ll hide behind the crapola of feminism, but it is because she is successful in all areas of her life and did it in spite of them that they hate her. I also believe it is because she appears to be in a partnership with her husband as God intended and is not apologetic for his manliness. Feminist hate, hate, hate men’s men and yet don’t realize that the only people holding women back are themselves. Strong women did not have to attack other women to better themselves and that is also what drives them crazy. I doubt we’ll ever hear Palin verbally attack other women.

Now who is the VP that would have fired up the GOP more than Palin?

It bears saying again...Why excatly is it that Sarah Palin is not qualified to be a vice-presidential candidate and Obama is qualified to be at the top of his ticket? I still haven't had an Obamabot give an even somewhat plausible answer.

The only reason McCAin has done this well is Sarah Palin.

You sound like another nasty Nellie to me.

I’ve read Epstein’s books—he’s a pretty good commentator on class and society. I’m interested to see that he “gets it” about Palin.
