. ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Alaska's black leaders say they're not surprised to see Gov. Sarah Palin at the center of the controversy over injecting the race issue into the presidential campaign.
Palin, Republican John McCain's running mate, has repeatedly insisted that Barack Obama's former preacher, the inflammatory Rev. Jeremiah Wright, is a legitimate issue even though McCain himself has said it's out of bounds.
"She has no sensitivity to minorities," said the Rev. Alonzo Patterson, a Baptist minister and president of the Alaska Black Leadership Conference. "She's really inciting a lot of African-Americans to get out and vote."

Among Palin's 417 appointments or reappointments to boards and commissions since taking office in December 2006, 240 have voluntarily identified their ethnicity. Eight are black, 49 Alaska Native, six Asian or Pacific Islander and one is Hispanic.

Governor Palin belongs to the party that freed the slaves, enshrined African American rights in the Constitution, and passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Barack Obama belongs to the party of the Ku Klux Klan. Just ask Senator Robert Byrd.

During my time in the Army, I once had a black soldier accuse me of racism. I blew a cork. I told him, if he had evidence, put it on the table. I told him this in front of my commander. I told him to drag in his witnesses. Show the paper I wrote it on. Prove it. He said he had a witness, his buddy, who was also black. The commander called the guy in and he said he NEVER heard me use a racist term. It was all a ploy because the soldier was in the wrong and his only chance of getting out of trouble was to use the race card! It didn't work. By the way, my commander was BLACK!! And he backed me.

What I got from reading the article is that the 4% want more than that reflected in Government appointments.
