Pew Research: “Rush Limbaugh,” “Hannity & Colmes” Listeners Best Informed About U.S. Politics
Capital Research Center ^ | October 18, 2008 | Matthew Vadum

Posted on 10/18/2008 1:40:08 PM PDT by vadum

The Pew Research Center for the People & the Press tested the political knowledge of 3,612 U.S. adults and found that the audiences of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity with Alan Colmes were the best informed about U.S. politics.

On two questions that asked respondents to identify the majority party in the U.S. House of Representatives (Democrats) and to identify the current U.S. secretary of state (Condoleezza Rice), "Hannity & Colmes" viewers scored 84% and 73% respectively. Among Rush Limbaugh listeners, the scores were 83% and 71%.

On a question involving international affairs in which the respondents had to identify the prime minister of the United Kingdom (Gordon Brown), 59% of readers of The New Yorker and the Atlantic got it right, compared to 57% of NPR listeners.

FreeRepublic didn’t get any credit!!! This site is my primary source of info(I know more about Zimbabwe, except maybe how to spell it,than I ever wanted to know)...my wife(the smart one)evidently uses our discussions as her prime source(aside from any news preceding the local weather report)...I gave her those three questions at the end of her 18 hour non sleep day and she answered them all correctly and remarked that it was too easy.

Who was worst? My guess? People who watch Chris Matthews. They’re not sure what country they live in...

I would say, tho, that it is Hannity’s radio program that should be mentioned, rather than “Sean Hannity with Alan Colmes”. I don’t know of anything said by Colmes that has enlightened or informed me.

Here is the composite score——

ny/a 71 71 59 201
NPR 73 72 57 202
HC 84 73 49 206
RUSH 83 71 41 195
COLB 73 65 49 187
DS 65 48 36 149
NH 66 52 47 165
ORF 70 60 41 171
CSPAN 63 59 35 157
LL 51 42 31 124
CNN 59 48 29 136
NE 44 32 22 98

It is interesting to see that National Enquirer readers score so poorly. But this could be a major plus. Keep in mind the National Enquirer just ran its piece on Obama and paedophile Frank Marshall Davis.

If any National Enquirer readers actually vote, they will be basing their vote on a story they read in the NE!!!!!!

Isn’t that interesting? The left always tries to make out that Rush’s listeners are mind-numbing robots who have the intelligence of a mental midget and that he some kind of Pied Piper that leads them astray and makes them do something they don’t want to do like Operation Chaos.

Don’t you love it! And Rush’s audience is always being castigated as brainless dittoheads.

I'll bet Rush's people score higher than people who read the New York Times. Pew is holding back - and for a reason...

Oh my, CNN viewers did not do so well.

Too bad they didn’t ask which websites people regularly visited.

NPR has a lower score than Hannity - but your list has them higher? Is that how Pew put it out?

Only 51% of Letterman/Leno viewers identified the Dems as in control of Congress...That means that 49% thought Republicans were in charge. This is mainstream America folks!

With only a 10% approval of Congress this explains why Republicans are down in the polls. Half of Americans think that the Republicans are in charge of Congress and they’re blaming them!

“Just 44 percent of BBC viewers identified the prime minister correctly.”

That’s SAD, Not even half of Great Briton know who their PM is!

The FAIRNESS DOCTRINE will pass easily [if Dems get super majority in the Senate] and also look for Washington, D.C. to become a state with two senators and a representative forever giving 3 more seats to DEMOCRATS!!!

From a conservative standpoint, I believe the Rush and Hannity marks are low and most likely due to Liberals listening and providing mis-information on who they listen to, or the listeners are new.

We all know regular listeners would have scored 100%.

Where’s the one where they ask people who William Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Tony Rezko, and ACORN are? I’d bet that a majority of Americans couldn’t recognize those names even after a year or more of campaigning. Forget about the CRA and the FMs. I’ve searched in vain to any mention of those names in my local lib rag.
