ST. LOUIS - Under the Gateway to the West, the St. Louis arch, Barack Obama addressed an estimated 100,000 people in the red Show Me State just 17 days before the general election - his biggest rally to date in the United States.

Oct. 18 - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama maintained his lead in national polls today as Republican John McCain narrowed the gap.
The Illinois senator was ahead by 6.5 percentage points in an average of 11 national polls taken during the past week, according to RealClearPolitics.com. That compares with 7.6 points a week ago. In the six polls released today, Obama’s edge shrunk to an average 5.5 points.
The crowd isn’t past the highway. The arch grounds slope up a hill - it just looks like it extends back to the court house.
“Obama Leads McCain in Newspaper Endorsements”
I would immediately cancel any paper that I was subscribing to if they endorsed Obama!
Nope - it was right under the arch.
If that’s a real photo without any photoshopping, we are in heap big trouble. Sigh....
Actually, the entire MSA, depending on where you draw the line, is 2.8-3.5 million. And, yes, there are a lot of conservatives here. And classic, beautiful neighborhoods if you look in places other than next to the highways.
You must live nearish to my parents - they are in St. Peters!
Yep.
CaCon, the terminal is in the suburbs
Free pot, free beer, free Bill Ayers tee-shirts.
Yep! I’m just a little further west, on the fringe of the metro area in Wentzville.
The Haj—that’s it, only it’s in St. Louis.
A whole bunch of lemmings gathered around a big black empty box!
In the pic in post 100 where you see the large American flag hanging, there is a square building directly to the right of the flag you will see an overhead highway sign.
After looking at some other pictures including google live view I could see that there is a hill directly to the east side of 70.
If you look carefully at the pic in post 100 you can see a sliver of green grass in front of the courthouse, most likely meaning the entire crowd was on the east side of 70.
RE: “the terminal is in the suburbs”

I’m well aware of where the airport is located — and the terminal I was in was a real mess at the time, and the “workers” inside that terminal were nasty and appeared slovenly.
McCain can easily outdo this...Find a central State as Obama did...bus people in for a free concert....and Have a Mega Rally...free tickets to troops and bus them in voluntarily from all bases around the area!!!
Norther city in Al. or MS....Open up with Lee Greenwood, Tobey Keith, Marina McBride, Rudy G...Joe Liberman...Then Joe the Plumber...Sara Palin....Then John McCain!!! I would fly out!!!!
feel free to send this to McCain Campaign I am at work.
I’m with you now.
RE: “Yeah - we here in St. Louis are pigs. Stay in California. We dont want you here in fly over country.
Think before you type - you are offending 2 million people who live in the St. Louis area, a lot of them conservatives. All cities have problems, but there are a lot of good people here.”

I’m not offending anyone who doesn’t live in St. Louis slums, or work in the disgusting airport terminal I was stuck inside and observed for several hours.
Don’t be so thin-skinned, for God’s sake. Obviously I know very well there are plenty of nice suburbs around St. Louis, as with most large cities. CA has more than its share of garbage as well.
