Plus, the place to unveil a high profile endorsement would typically be at a rally with the person being endorsed.

I won’t rule that out. I would hope he would have the common sense not to endorse Obama.

If he does, he will have destroyed every speck of respect I ever had for him.

To be honest here, he has gone a long way toward that already for me.

If Powell indeed endorses McCain I will be flabbergasted. After Powell’s turnaround on Iraq (he said that it’s based on lies, a failure, we are losing etc.) I wonder how he is going to justify his reversal... what will he say about the Surge? Powell is an opportunist, but if he returns to the good side, well it’s going to be interesting.

Our military troops will see Colin Powell as a traitor if he endorses Obama to become their under-qualified Commander-in-Chief. Colin Powell wants to send a message to the world though, so he could go for Obama. I would hope he would just decline to endorse either one. He will lose the respect of many if he chooses to publicly endorse Obama.

Would Colin Powell vote for Obama if he had two white parents? Would he be supporting Obama SOLELY because he is black?

From what I understand it stretches back to the eighties. That’s about all I know.

Probably one of the worst Cabinet appointees in history. Zero creditability.

He was a very bad general He was a crap Sec of State

I am going to differ with this view. Conservative threw him under the bus because of Iraq. The problem is that the neocons had no plan for the war, and folks like Powell who stood up for doing it right or not at all were besmirched by folks like us. It turns out that he was right, we needed a lot more force than we went in with, and as a consequence we lost a lot of lives unnecessarily burned through a lot of treasure and political capital, and have only just managed to pull it off when it is too late to save the political ball game.

So no, I think we owe Powell an apology actually.

I’m sorry, maybe it’s late. I don’t know what Curveball is or means.
I only know the pitching reference.

Can you explain?

I agree! Any B-student of "Current World Affairs" should have known much better than those people. I remember two concerns: 1. that we needed to take Hussein out (not speaking of the US presidential candidate) especially citing Hussein's 12-year long violations of the UN suspension of hostilities and, 2. wondering how in the world we could avoid factional chaos (e.g., India under Mountbatten, now e.g... Iraq until this last year).

And knowing what we do about Powell and McCain, how could they not be good friends? Each are exactly the kind of guy the other admires very greatly and gravitates to.

Well given the latest staticstics, it seems as if he would support Obama because of his race. I get your point.

We will see on Sunday. i just don’t get that he waits until two weeks before the election. Obama is ahead, why do this now, if he is for Obama?

It is truly amazing the degree these folks can go to as far as being a total screw up (John Kerry for instance), and yet still be shown respect.

Kerry by rights should be living on the street eating Alpo, but he continues to live the good life.

It’s a real shame IMO.
