The Barack backlash (America takes a second look, and backs away)
WORLD NET DAILY ^ | 10/17/08 | © 2008 Pat Buchanan

Posted on 10/17/2008 4:31:07 PM PDT by Liz

--SNIP--Obama knows Middle America harbors deep suspicions of him.....he has jettisoned position after position to make himself acceptable. His "flip-flops" testify most convincingly to the fact that Obama knows that where he comes from is far outside the American mainstream. For what are flip-flops other than concessions that a position is untenable and must be abandoned?

Thus, though he is the nominee of a party in thrall to the environmental movement, Obama has signaled conditional support for offshore drilling and pumping out of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

While holding to his pledge for a pullout of combat brigades from Iraq in 16 months, he has talked of "refining" his position and of a residual U.S. force to train the Iraqi army and deal with al-Qaida. On Afghanistan, he has called for 10,000 more troops and U.S. strikes in Pakistan to kill bin Laden, even without prior notice or the permission of the Pakistani government.

Since securing the nomination, Obama has adopted the Scalia position on the death penalty for child rape and the right to keep a handgun in the home. He voted to give the telecoms immunity from prosecution for colluding in Bush wiretaps.

This onetime sympathizer of the Palestinians now does a passable imitation of Ariel Sharon. No Democrat has ever come out of the far left of his party to win the presidency. McGovern, the furthest left, stayed true to his convictions and lost 49 states. Obama has chosen another course. Though he comes out of the McGovern-Jesse Jackson left, he has shed past positions like support for partial-birth abortion as fast as he has shed past associations, from William Ayers to ACORN, from the Rev. Jeremiah Wright to his fellow parishioners at Trinity United.

Btw I read on another post that Joe the plumber brought up Barry’s lack of a birth certificate on a radio interview today. The man is almost singlehandedly destroying the fraud.

That "Joe the Plumber" guy, who the heck does he think he is? He's a registered republican (for crying out loud!), so, who the heck is going to believe anything he has to say? Not only that, he has no hair! /Olberman mode/

Every time I’m ready to write off Pat Buchanan as a kook, he comes up with a gem like this article. Yeah, Pat nailed it.

0Bambi is shifting positions faster than a Texas beach in a hurricane. Twenty years of hard-left activism and suddenly he’s the champion of low taxes and the middle class. You’d have to be very, very gullible to believe any of it.

Every time I think about this election, it boggles my mind. How did someone like Senator Government ever actually get to this point in the first place? What in the world were the Democrats thinking???? Shoot, what were WE thinking? To think McCain and Obama are the best a nation of 300 million people can come up with...

Deserves a repeat....let's pass that around ASAP.

I share your ambivalence regarding Pat Buchanan. He is a great political thinker but he can definitely go off the deep end from time to time. My favorite Pat Buchanan quote may not have been originally said by him but he is the first one I ever heard say it:"We are going to fight until hell freezes over and when hell freezes over we will fight on the ice." Pat is one pugnacious son of a gun.

My favorite Pat Buchanan quote may not have been originally . . .

My favorite is from the 1992 campaign in South Carolina or somewhere, when he was running for President (and when I supported him, as opposed to recent years). He was making great strides, but of course the Proper Prude media were reminding him that his campaign budget seemed small for what he was attempting. As the primary approached, his numbers were looking inexplicably good. They asked him, "What will you tell your people to do?"

With a chuckle, he answered, "Saddle up, and ride to the sound of the guns."

All you Buchannan bashers need to be consistent now and say that he’s crazy about what he is saying here.

Hey I like Pat, it’s just that his occasional deep end comments regarding WW2 get a little tiresome after a while. Besides as they say even a clock is right twice a day and in this instance Pat is correct that the tide may gave turned against Barry Hussein.

Liberals can’t run as liberals. They’d lose. Obama, for all his faults, is not stupid. Therefore, he runs to the middle.

It’s all a big act until he gets elected. Then he’ll have the power to do pretty much whatever the left wants.

Don’t like it? Too bad. He’s got four years before you or I have another chance to stop him.

This is one of those things that amazes me about this race. The MSM compares and contrasts the Obama and McCain plans as though Obama is operating in good faith. He’s not.

It’s bizarre. Someone with decades of hard-left activism suddenly sounds more conservative than McCain, and no one blinks.

They (the MSM) know that. But they're on his side...and not about to spill the beans.

Do you actually expect them to tell the truth about their agenda?
