ACORN comes out swinging

In last night's debate, Sen. John McCain suggested that ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) was responsible for massive voter fraud that could destroy ''the fabric of democracy.'' Now the leaders of the community organizing group have emerged with an aggressive effort to push back.

In a conference call with reporters this morning, they've accused McCain -- whose recent ad also suggests ACORN has a role in the widespread home mortgage crisis -- of an ''outlandish'' attempt to ''hoodwink the American public'' in order to distract from what they say is his "desperate'' presidential campaign.

They argued that with regard to their voter registration efforts of more than a million new voters -- many of them first-time, and poor -- ''we should be applauded and, quite frankly, proud of our achievements.''

And Maude Hurd, the organization's national president, said in a statement issued today slammed McCain for being ''for ACORN before he was against it.''

''We appreciate that Senator McCain's effort to stir up the Republican base by attacking a community organization working to increase public participation in our democratic process,'' Hurd said in her statement. ''Unfortunately, the Senator McCain we saw (in the debate) is very different than the Senator McCain who stood shoulder to shoulder with ACORN at a February 20, 2006 immigration reform event.''

--snip--

ACORN organizers this morning said that Sen. Barack Obama, as a local elected official in Chicago, participated in two training sessions for 50 volunteer leaders.

In addition, he and his law firm represented a group of plantiffs, including ACORN, regarding motor votor registration issues. They said his campaign has also provided about $80,000 in funding to an independent consulting group, which in turn provided some funding to ACORN to get out the vote.

Many, if not most, in ACORN “came out” long long ago.

Win or lose, McCain and Palin have done the nation (and Republicans in particular) a great service—they have permanently destroyed the credibility of ACORN. From this election forward “ACORN” will be synonymous with “voter fraud” in the minds of the American people. Their power will be diminished, their activities tracked and investigated, their results challenged in court.

Yeah, well what about all the documented bogus voter registrations in all the battleground states? And the lawsuits that have been filed in that regard? I swear, these people act as if they can do whatever they please and then just SAY they are just and upright - and expect to get away with it?!?

They seriously need to be prosecuted individually and as a group to the maximum extent for their roles in this very real threat to the republic!

You are correct, but until someone actually prosecutes them in mass they will continue to get away with it.

Ahem—ACORN is under indictment in a number of places already. But that should not imply that ACORN is an ideologically corrupt organization. Keep moving. Nothing to see here.

The left is always comfortable with denying the obvious.

Marinucci is a DNC Shill.

She hasn’t written a negative article about Obama, or a positive article about McCain and especially Palin.

Her and another “Journalist” at SFGate, Joe Garofoli, are taking turns tarring and tag-teaming Sarah Palin, while ignoring Ayers, ACORN, Rezko, Odinga, etc...

They continually ask “Does Sarah Palin have the experience?” but never ask the same about Obama.

Those two make me ill.

SFGate disappoints me. This isn't, or shouldn't, be a partisan issue - ACORN has been notorious for this sort of behavior for years and this isn't the first time it's been caught with its grubby fingers in the ballot box.

The real issue is the moral failure related to the persistent attitude on the liberal side of the house that cheating for our guy is somehow less reprehensible than cheating for the opponent. There is nothing more corrosive to representative government than skewing the ability of the represented to have their voices heard.

Nice distraction, but back to the main point:

ACORN is being investigated for knowingly submitting hundreds upon thousands of fraudulent voter registration forms in 14 states.

Regardless of what any planned public relations memo states, the truth doesn’t change.

I will believe that...when I see it.

One thing I know....is the LEFT never gives up, and never gives in.

Fact is....I am very doubtful that the credibility of ACORN or ACORN type organizations have been destroyed at all. Who is gonna help doing that? The DBM / MDM!!!??? ROFLOL!!!!

PC....is alive and well. And is not going away...without a sustained hard fight.
