Let's live to fight another day (vanity) ...
October 16, 2008 | hk

I'm an old guy (76), been lurking Free Republic since 1996, posting a little now and then. Engineer type, own business as a mgmt consultant since 1968 doing mostly business plans, which are basically numbers and charts, with just enough words to try to make them make sense (professional guesser :)).

My plea here is, that in spite of all our concerns about McCain/Palin, we must set those concerns aside and (1) fight to help them win and (2) not give up, no matter how down we might get at times. There are two huge reasons why ...

The biggest, eclipsed in the news lately by everything else going on, is the threat of attack in major metro areas by the jihad folks, as soon as Bush leaves office. While they are not afraid to give their lives, they do respect and fear power, and say what you want about the Bush administration, they do fear George Bush personally, as is evidenced by the fact that there have been no attacks within our borders since 911 ... none. If Obama wins, there will be attacks, and very soon. They will be nuclear, most likely in multiple locations simultaneously. If McCain wins, I'd put the chances at less than 10% of that happening.

The second is if Obama wins, we will lose our Christian heritage, and the wonderful government structure given us by our founding fathers. We will lose our way of life, I think, forever.

There are other reasons, important ones of course, but to have a chance to fight for those things down the road we must first defeat Obama.

I'm just as concerned as the rest of you about unchecked immigration, all the socialist positions McCain has supported in the past. But again, we can't ever fight for those things again if we don't defeat Obama.

And the cause of our financial problem is the actions of the Federal Reserve, pure and simple. It is independent, not controlled or influenced in any way, by the administration in power or by the Republicans or the Democrats.

There are many respected people within this blog and other linked blogs as well that feel we should not back either candidate but vote (or not vote) on principal instead. Surely there have been times in the past to do that .................... but not this time.

John and Sarah both love our country passionately and they are both fighters, and that means more to me than anything.

Thank you...what a nice post....I’m sure going to give it MY best shot...went out last night and put up NOBAMMA stickers everywhere! (and to think I was worried that at 58...Obama would be my last President...now I can look forward to fighting at 78!)

We've got the base locked up. Tell me how you're going to convince these people to vote McCain/Palin:

Voting for Obama anyway

I just got an astounding e-mail from a Republican consultant I know well. He's a guy who's always thought Obama had a "glass jaw," and was always among those agitating for hitting Obama harder.

Recently, he conducted a focus group in an upper-Midwestern state, showing them the kind of ad he thought would work: A no-holds-barred attack, cut for an independent group, which hasn't aired.

I'm just going to reprint his amazed e-mail about the focus group:

Reagan Dems and Independents. Call them blue-collar plus. Slightly more Target than Walmart.

Yes, the spot worked. Yes, they believed the charges against Obama. Yes, they actually think he's too liberal, consorts with bad people and WON'T BE A GOOD PRESIDENT...but they STILL don't give a f***. They said right out, "He won't do anything better than McCain" but they're STILL voting for Obama.

The two most unreal moments of my professional life of watching focus groups:

54 year-old white male, voted Kerry '04, Bush '00, Dole '96, hunter, NASCAR fan...hard for Obama said: "I'm gonna hate him the minute I vote for him. He's gonna be a bad president. But I won't ever vote for another god-damn Republican. I want the government to take over all of Wall Street and bankers and the car companies and Wal-Mart run this county like we used to when Reagan was President."

The next was a woman, late 50s, Democrat but strongly pro-life. Loved B. and H. Clinton, loved Bush in 2000. "Well, I don't know much about this terrorist group Barack used to be in with that Weather guy but I'm sick of paying for health insurance at work and that's why I'm supporting Barack."

I felt like I was taking crazy pills.  I sat on the other side of the glass and realized...this really is the Apocalypse. The Seventh Seal is broken and its time for eight years of pure, delicious crazy....

I like your attitude HK. By the way, you've got me by four years.

I worked as an electrical engineer for many years without having an engineering degree. Did a lot of programming, design, modification of in-plant milling, cutting, welding machines..

Good attitude you have there. Don't give up and hang on to the heritage. Excellent advice.

Excellent post, full of common sense and patriotism. Thank you.

As for me, I’m heading out of state shortly to help what little I can (on my own dime) in the McCain/Palin campaign. Was McCain my choice? Not by a long shot — but we MUST get behind him now.

My worst nightmare: a Supreme Court stacked by Obama, Reed, and Pelosi. What a horrid legacy to leave our grandchildren.

(And who would have thought some of those old liberal geezers would last this long and deprive Bush of the chance to fill their chairs with more Roberts & Alito picks?)

Please, FReepers everywhere, unite to save our way of life!

Sam —

About all we can do is get ourselves and other right-thinkers to the polls and hope those idiots forget to vote. This is NOT a year to sit it out.

Too many American voters are, to put it mildly, just plain stupid. And their votes count just as much as mine.

Makes you understand the wisdom of the Founders in creating the Electoral College.

Another reason: Our children and grandchildren.

I want my daughter to grow up in the same country I grew up in, not some marxist slum.

What’s incredible is that you can find a plumber in Ohio who has more sense than anyone in the federal government or in the media.

That gives me hope for this country long-term and for a defeat of Obama next month.

John McCain was my last choice for the GOP nominee, but given his selection of Sarah Palin as VP (which gives me some future conservative hope), and seeing that I'm backed into a corner with the alternative being 4 to 8 years of Obamunism, I will adopt the position that the enemy of my enemy is my friend and I'll vote for McCain/Palin just to stop the socialist enemy knocking on the White house door with the movers behind him.

I'll fight Obamunism to election day and beyond. I suggest my fellow FReepers join in and let the media and the messiah's jihadi camp of corruption know that even if he does win the election, there will not be a day that goes by that we will not be breathing down his political neck, looking under every rock and in every dark corner to uncover and expose his true character so that it may be used to impeach his radical arse right out of office.

I wish the electoral college wisdom was injected before the DNC/RNC decide to present us with such a weak-or-worst choice.

I have friends who said they were going to sit out this election.

That has changed! They're voting for McCain.

HK B, I am SO with you on this (except for the order of your two points of concern - I'd say #2 is a certainty as soon as they make their initial moves to consolidate power with the help of a two-thirds majority of congress). I almost posted a similar vanity myself yesterday.

By staying home out of spite against McCain, conservatives must realize that they are putting their John Hancocks on a Declaration of Anti-independence - a "Declaration of Dependence" installing a socialist government that will control our lives and steal our freedom. If you love God and Country, don't let it happen without a fight!

Now that said, I have to admit I feel pretty stymied about what to do. I live in one of the most liberal areas of NY State and my family's votes will be meaningless...

Pray!

BUMP - I’m with you....I wrote a 2 page, single spaced letter to my family and friends about Bill Clinton prior to his 2nd election warning them about voting for him....I think they all thought I was crazy....but, I turned out right.....I am now considering the same type of message (but, in a better format) to send to all friends and family....I suggest you all do the same. And, of course, I’m sending emails....of Obama’s LIES, Obama’s Friends List, and I’ve put together something called “Are YOU Smarter than a 7th Grader?” that I plan to post here soon as a thread. Keep movin’ on folks....keep fighting....this country is at WAR from within, Iraq is only one battle we’re facing. The communists here have been implementing their manifesto, through the schools, by infiltrating government bureaucracies, by starting “non-profits”...and they are finally thinking they will be tasting REAL SUCCESS!!!

We have to CONTINUE TO FIGHT!

I’ve long thought the same thing and the first step is to organize a European American Defense League (EADL); but I don’t see anyone doing that. We know what’s coming, the diminishment of rights and the taking of properties and wealthy from European Americans on an unprecedented level. I fear as well they may close the borders or force EA’s to post high cash bonds before being alowed to leave.

But, again, I don’t see anyone actively doing anything about it in terms of forming an EADL.
