WASHINGTON -- Democratic Rep. John Murtha said Wednesday his home base of western Pennsylvania is racist and that could reduce Barack Obama's victory margin in the state by 4 percentage points.
The 17-term Democratic congressman told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in a story posted Wednesday on its Web site: "There is no question that western Pennsylvania is a racist area."
Murtha said it has taken time for many Pennsylvania voters to come around to embracing a black presidential candidate, but that Obama should still win the state, though not in a runaway.

Maybe Murtha is talking about both? The blacks who hate whites and whites who hate blacks. That way he’s covered.
If they can’t unseat this tick with this, then all hope is lost in Pa.
Last I heard, Murtha was going to fold up his tent and retire after his current term. Might explain things … he doesn’t care who he hurts, he’s out the door. ;-)
All I know is that if it were me, and my Rep said this about my area, the last thing I’d want to do is vote for anyone in his party because it doesn’t seem that his party disagrees with him.
The only one he seems to try to hurt are the democrats. This can’t pump sunshine into any campaign.
It is 50% white; 6.25% Black which does not qualify for minority status under US rules; and 43.75% Luo tribe from Kenya. He has one black great grandmother.
I take it this guy is in a purely black area??? Otherwise I am sure the whites in his area are going to love him!

Being racist and voting for Obama are not mutually exclusive. In fact, they go hand in hand.
Wonder if Hillary had him say that? At such a critical time, in such a battleground state, wonder if Murtha has better street cred with Hillary, knows his seat is safe and dropped that one-liner for her?
I think Murtha said this for:
a. He is a Hillary Democrat and wants Obama to lose. This will just piss off whites voters in PA to vote McCain in PA.
OR
b. He is for Obama and Obama is not winning PA.
OR
c. He is just stupid. I think he is stupid but it was said for a reason so it is either a or b.
Either way I think it is good for McCain.
McCain should run this ad that Frank Luntz tested and who loves it.
