Tests on leading brands of U.S. bottled water turned up a variety of contaminants, including cancer-linked chemicals three times higher than California's health standard, according to a study released Wednesday by an environmental advocacy group.

This is not news. Other than taste, tap water is usually just fine. And the boittle stuff is often muni water anyway.

Since I can’t stand the taste of our tap water, we filter our tap water and use SIGG bottles to carry water around during the day.

Bottled water to me is a monumental waste of money. A simple filter and re-useable water bottles saves us money and really is enviro friendly.

Known for a fact that tap water from N.Y.C. was rated #1 in nation and yet more plastic bottles of out of state bottles (and shapes) are purchased by the greenies than other states, except maybe California and upstate Washington State

35 parts per billion? Oh, please, that is insignificant. We are surrounded by risk everywhere, and we need to understand the difference between a real risk and a bogus one. Will we ever stop being frightened by these absurd health scare stories?

I can just see some people continuing to smoke and not wearing their seat belts, but refusing to drink “contaminated” bottled water.

I’ve got news for folks. Most of the risk to your health and longevity is beyond your control anyway. It doesn’t matter how much oat bran or broccoli you eat. So why not just live your life and stop worrying so much?

It’d be more accurate to say that tap water is just as uncontaminated as bottled water.

In my house...municipal water...then 5µm carbon whole house filter...then water softener (ion exchange)..then at the kitchen sink is a 20µm sediment filter, then another 5µm carbon and finally a 0.05µm reverse osmosis filter to a 3 gallon storage tank....

Guess you could say I bottle myself.

Excellent point. The #1 ACCURATE predictor of how healthy you will be and how old you are when you die, is your parent’s and grandparent’s health history. The only proven way to increase lifespan is the rigid restriction of caloric intake.

I'm afraid of tap water too. In my house, I carefully filter water through a mixture of specialty grains and a preserving bittering agent. I then subject that mixture to a special organism that produces a known bactericide. After several weeks of such treatment, the purified water is bottled and kept refrigerated.

I highly recommend this process.
