WASHINGTON -
Frustrations inside John McCain's camp boiled over on the eve of tonight's presidential debate as the candidate's brother unleashed an e-mail blasting the campaign's "counter-productive" strategy.
"Let John McCain be John McCain," wrote Joe McCain in a missive sent out shortly before midnight Monday. "Make ads that show John not as crank and curmudgeon but as a great leader for his time."
McCain's younger brother was sharply critical of unnamed top campaign officials who "so tightly 'control the message'" that they are preventing reporters from speaking with those, like himself, who know the candidate best. His complaint echoed those of other McCain intimates who have chafed for months at orders not to speak with the news mediawithout advance permission from the campaign.
The younger McCain called this news management strategy "counter-intuitive, counter-experiential, and counter-productive" because it conflicts with his brother's reputation for openness. The clampdown "has gradually bled away all the good will that this great man had from the press," he wrote.
He described himself as a sailor warning that the campaign is sailing into shoals "while the rest of the officers and warrants are poring over plans and maps and high-minded thoughts."

Right Diagnosis, wrong prescription. The press is too liberal to tell the truth. We saw it when McCain did the statesman-like thing and suspended his campaign while the media parroted the democratic talking point of presidential politics interfering with the process.
Why doesn't bro' call bro'?
Is John being held hostage?
This sounds incredibly stupid for Joe McCain to be trashing his own brother's presidential campaign and charging John McCain is a hapless victim of his handlers.
If John McCain's campaign is having problems, why can't the man himself take the rudder?
Why does Joe McCain charge his brother John McCain has no say in the conduct of his own campaign?
Sheesh!
Lemme guess.... McCain's brother is older than John?
(/eyerolling)
The brother is a flaming, naive idiot!@ McCain only good will from the press is if he is being a super rhino or doing what Team Marxist wants for his defeat.
Good will from the press? Is John’s brother suffering from the beginnings of dementia?
If anything, Joe McCain should be railing against the press for their slanting and shilling for the Teleprompter Kid.
The brother is a flaming, naive idiot!
Wow the other day FRiends were praising him for his agressive talk on the stump. I guess I have to catch up on when we like him and when we don’t.
"Lemme guess.... McCain's brother is older than John?"
From the article
"McCain's younger brother was sharply critical of unnamed top campaign officials who "so tightly 'control the message'......."
Naive must run through the McCain DNA. These ding dongs think they can get the media back on their side? HA HA!
Makes John McCain sound like a wimp who can’t stand up to his own advisors. Not only that — he’s begging his brother to be more nice and friendly. Thus, this comes off as a double-squish. I’m feeling queazy.
Good point. He’s either uninformed or worse.
He looks like a forgotten trip to the drugstore.
But the problem is he suspended his campaign just as it was getting some real traction (due to Palin) and he had Obie off balance. And he’s yet to unsuspend it. The biggest mistake he’s made is believing the media is his friend. I truly believe he’s yet to realize they’re out to destroy him. Just watch the Sunday talk shows a week or so after the election. The Senator from Arizona will be all smiles and giggles with his executioners as Obie measures the drapes.
If his releasing this PUBLIC BLAST against his brother’s campaign is a measure of Joe’s sagacity in reading the times, and the media, then my advice to the campaign is:
IGNORE HIM
HE’S AN IDIOT
Congratulations on posting w/o reading. A great FR tradition must endure!
The MSM is the enemy. Period.
