TOLEDO, Ohio (AFP) Barack Obama's White House campaign charged Tuesday that desperate Republicans were waging a nationwide campaign orchestrated with John McCain's staff to intimidate voters and depress turnout.
Top aides to the Democrat battled back against what they called a Republican "smokescreen" over a liberal advocacy group called ACORN, which is under investigation in several states over allegations of voter registration fraud.
The group released a video, set to the song "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," showing McCain warmly greeting its activists at a February 2006 event in support of immigration reform.
Obama said his own ties to the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now went no further than legal work he did with the Justice Department for ACORN against the state of Illinois in the mid-1990s.
"As an elected official I've had interactions with them," the Illinois senator told reporters in Ohio.
"But they're not advising the campaign. We've got the best voter registration turnout and volunteer operation in politics right now, and we don't need ACORN's help," he said.
The McCain campaign is airing a 90-second ad alleging close and enduring ties between Obama and ACORN, which it said had bullied banks into extending the kinds of subprime mortgage loans at the heart of the US financial crisis.
The group boasts of gathering the names of 1.3 million mostly non-white, low-income voters in 21 states in the most successful voter registration drive in US history.
But many of the names are said by conservatives to be duplicated, or of famous sports stars, or of cartoon and movie characters.

Saw some dillweed on Fox News the other day who admitted he registered 73 times. “If I knew it wuz gonna be a problem I wouldn’t a did it.”
That stuff should be played over and over by the McCain campaign, emphasizing that Obama was the attorney for this organization while this stuff was going on. People hate scumbag lawyers, and they hate voter fraud.
Give me a break!
If an imaginary person living at a nonexistent address doesn’t vote, I call that justice. Senator Obama (D-Alternate Reality) calls it voter suppression.
What a country!

The fact they’re screaming so loudly over this means they’re terrified of all the ACORN stuff including his deep ties to it coming out.
If 0bama loses, the President better be ready to nationalize the National Guard. The cities will be on fire.
Not to mention the Dallas Cowboys.......
“I refuse to disenfranchise the large fictitious Democrat constituency that exists (so to speak) in this country!”
And what if obie’s supporters only get to vote once...why, that’s racist.../s.
Black Liberation Theology does that ... and Barack Obama thinks so highly of it that until very recently he kept his daughters in a church spewing the hate. But it makes no difference to Obama sycophants, most of them share the hate.
Oh really? Someone sent me a link to this article from Social Policy Magazine, Spring 2004 Issue which details some of Obama's early work with Acorn. The site Social Policy Magazine does require registration, unfortunately, to read the article.
Figure the orders are already implemented. It will take more than the Guard,be prepared.
Have you ever wondered why the 1st BCT has been deployed stateside as the “Homeland Division”?
I think this is the reason.
He is a damn liar!
Could be , but it’s more than likely they’ve been broken down into smaller outfits to train Guard Units thru-out the States in Suburban Warfare as the Guard in itself has’nt got that training, unless they’ve been deployed to the Mid-East.
I think this because The Big Red One can’t cover the entire Country.
Great link I went and read the article after a free sign up. One quote really sticks out from there especially since Obama’s website still states he NEVER did any training classes for Acorn. Quote from Social Policy Magazine, Spring 2004 Issue
“Obama then went on to run a voter registration project with Project VOTE in 1992 that made it possible for Carol Moseley Braun to win the Senate that year. Project VOTE delivered 50,000 newly registered voters in that campaign (ACORN delivered about 5000 of them).
Since then, we have invited Obama to our leadership training sessions to run the session on power every year, and, as a result, many of our newly developing leaders got to know him before he ever ran for office. Thus, it was natural for many of us to be active volunteers in his first campaign for State Senate and then his failed bid for U.S. Congress in 1996. By the time he ran for U.S. Senate, we were old friends. And along about early March, we started to see that the African-American community had made its move: when Sen. Obama’s name was mentioned at our Southside Summit meeting with 700 people in attendance from three southside communities, the crowd went crazy. With about a week to go before the election, it was very clear how the African-American community would vote. But would they vote in high enough numbers?”
hmmm.
must be Obama is in the habit of giving $800,000 to folks he doesn’t “need” ??
“Obama is in the habit of giving $800,000 to folks he doesnt need ??”
Hhhhhuuuuummmmm, that is more that $250,000 how much do you suppose obie would make them pay in taxes...
