McCain's brother blasts campaign strategy

In e-mail statement, he calls on top aides to "Let John McCain be John McCain"--

WASHINGTON - Frustrations inside John McCain's camp boiled over on the eve of Wednesday night's presidential debate as the candidate's brother unleashed an e-mail blasting the campaign's "counter-productive" strategy.

"Let John McCain be John McCain," wrote Joe McCain in a missive sent out shortly before midnight Monday. "Make ads that show John not as crank and curmudgeon but as a great leader for his time."

McCain's younger brother was sharply critical of unnamed top campaign officials who "so tightly 'control the message'" that they are preventing reporters from speaking with those, like himself, who know the candidate best. His complaint echoed those of other McCain intimates who have chafed for months at orders not to speak with the news media without advance permission from the campaign.

The younger McCain called this news management strategy "counter-intuitive, counter-experiential, and counter-productive" because it conflicts with his brother's reputation for openness. The clampdown "has gradually bled away all the good will that this great man had from the press," he wrote.

Uh, Joe, get a clue. That good will disappeared the day McCain clinched the Republican nomination.

John McCain is being John McCain. Bi Partisan, fair and balanced. Unfortunately the media isn’t following suit so he also has to get Obama on the record with his radicalism

John McCain does need to fire anyone. He just needs to buy Gov. Palin primetime- and let speak to America in a presidential tone. Cure all their worries.

I think he has a point about the ads. Obamas are far more polished and effective. IMHO

Point taken. Then again, his options are somewhat limited...

It should be more like: Let John McCain be Sarah Palin.

McCain needs a good set of first principles — I hear Fred Thompson has a slightly used set, maybe John could borrow his. I don’t think a compass is what you need.

Or maybe Sarah would loan John the use of hers. temporarily of course.

True. Obama almost had me thinking that he would have a tax cutting program that would be better for our family.

Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe -

The “press” has NEVER cared a whit for ANY conservative, and only for John when he was being a good little boy and going along to get along with Democrats in the Congress. (They secretly pushed John for the Republican nominee for President because they THOUGHT he would be EASY for the liberal Democrat Presidential candidate to beat. Governor Palin was a curve ball, so they had to go after her and your brother tooth and nail with every hateful weapon in their arsenal. . lies, gotcha interrogations, insults, constant softballs to Obama . . . THE MSM DOES NOT LIKE JOHN MCCAIN AND THE SOONER HE REALIZES IT, THE BETTER. They are about all LIBERALS, Joe.

Why is it so difficult for McCain to understand that the media is not his friend. He was only their useful idiot. Now that he stands in the way of their dream boy Obama, he is no longer useful.

What do you want to bet though, if Obama wins the election, the MSM will try to make up with McCain and invite him on all the news shows to trash Republicans again?

johnny had invested decades into being the friend and lover of the media and now that they want a divorce, he's obsessed with winning them back, at all costs.

It doesn't matter what they do to him, he's blinded by the love affair they once shared...

It looks like Paul West has a source in the McCain camp but it could be that he just is a liar.
