Some of McCain's economic proposals he outlined in Pennsylvania today:
* Suspend rules mandating that investors must begin to sell off their IRAs and 401(k)s when they reach 70 1/2 years old.
* Cut the tax rate for retirement-account withdrawals to 10%.
* Reduce the tax rate on capital gains to 7.5%.
* Reduce the reduce the federal business tax rate from 35% to 25%.
* Eliminate taxes on unemployment benefits.
As for rhetoric, this passage stands out:
This weekend, a plumber concerned that Senator Obama was going to raise his taxes asked him directly about his plan. The response was telling. Senator Obama explained to him that he was going to raise his taxes to quote "spread the wealth around." This explains how Senator Obama can promise an income tax cut for millions who aren't even paying income taxes right now. My friends, my plan isn't intended to force small businesses to cut jobs to pay higher taxes so we can "spread the wealth around." My plan is intended to create jobs and increase the wealth of all Americans.
Probably a story we'll hear at tomorrow's debate.
The Obama camp responded:

Now I must go apply my lipstick.
where was this McCain a couple months ago?
Exactly. Should’ve unveiled this during his convention acceptance speech.
double dependent child credit to 7000/per
heard him say that too
father of 5...4 dependent
Not Over Yet (Reasons for hope on the first Tuesday in November)
And from AJ Strata of the Strata-Sphere Blog a heavy discussion of the Political Industial Complex Techniques in structuring Polls to achieve desired results...i.e.- electing Obama:
Polls Tightening, Political Industrial Complex Off Its Collective Rockers
McCain has shown these flashes of muscle leading into every debate... and then debate night comes by and there he is, standing up there mealing mouthing independants and democrats.
The big question is: Will this McCain be at the “debate” tomorrow night?
I like the IRA withdrawal provision...I paid too much last year....
I agree...you have to pull so much out mandatory at 70...very unfair in a down market
and negative cap losses are only deductible at what now...5000 per year on personal?
ridiculous
Obama Tells Tax-Burdened Plumber the Plan is to Spread the Wealth Around
where was this McCain a couple months ago?
Months ago he was “reaching across the isle”.
As for allowing people to withdraw without penalty, or lowering the tax rate, that will cause more sell offs in the stock market. And it’ll never fly with the dems because it’s actually a tax cut.
How about a commercial simply referring to the One as a “liberal” or a “socialist.” These things registered with the American people in the past.
McCain's problem will be this proposal should have been made at or before the GOP convention.
I would say something like: “Mr. Ayers was, is, and will continue to be all about bringing down the Capitalist Establishment. Senator Obama has worked with this man and distributed millions of dollars to various organizations with similar views. It makes me wonder what type of folks Senator Obama will surrond himself with to help solve this current situation.
In these times of economic uncertainty the last thing we want to do is restrict business. Growth in businesses that build things, that help our communities. Some folks look at our economy and say it was the greedy folks on Wall Street.
This isn't about Wall Street. This is about Main Street. Helping your local plumber to grow. Giving the guy that was laid off a chance to start his own handy-man business. [Insert nice story on how some laid-off guy grew his business and now employs over 150 people].
Medved has a good point.
ROCK AND ROLL.
MCCAIN: THE PRO-FREEDOM CANDIDATE
Wow, nice to see.
I have been saying Ayers is not enough.
He needs to present his own freaking plan, not just rip Obama.
He finally did so.
However, I would have liked to see something still a bit more visionary than this, but it is much better than I expected.
But, he needs to get out there and explain how every part of this will be BETTER at helping families than Obama’s tax credit city.
