Layton is a hard-core marxist. He’s been a fixture in local politics here in Toronto since the 1970s, and his work as a City Councillor was instrumental in our city’s decline.

Agreed. They need to build a national party. This election underlines the reality that the days when the Liberals could put together huge majorities out of Central Canada are gone forever. If the loss of 25 seats doesn't drive home that message to them, nothing will. They really need to find someone who can appeal to the West and give the party a fresh message. Green socialism is not the way to win a majority.

Well, time for me to go to bed! I’m pleased that PM Harper won. That last surge by Dion (or at least that is what the newsmakers were saying) didn’t come to pass. Not a majority gov’t for Harper but he has more strength than before. I wish him and Canada well.

It seems that “green socialism” is exactly where our Dem party is headed, especially since it’s been hijacked by the Moonbats.

Ironic. It always seems Canada was a socialist nation compared to the USA. Now the tea leaves read that you folks are going to be more conservative than US!!

Partly. Corporate and union donations are now illegal, and to make up for it the government subsidizes the parties based on the number of votes they get. The Liberals passed this law because they expected to always get the largest number of votes, but where they miscalculated was the fact that while their party relied heavily on corporate donations, the Tories have always gotten most of their money from individual donors. So now the Libs are cut out of from the corporate cash, while the Conservatives have been getting more money from individuals and are now collecting a bigger subsidy than the Libs. The Liberal Party has been in dire financial straits for a few years now, which IMO was the main reason Harper called this election- even though he didn’t get a majority, another election would bankrupt the Liberals so he can have his way in Parliament.

Harper is in the drivers' seat tonight. With their shrunken numbers, the Liberals are in no position to pose a challenge. He can pass pretty much what he wants even without a formal majority.

The most they can afford to do in a confidence vote is abstain because they don’t have the funds for another election.

Wouldn't that make it a good idea for the CPC to find some reason to force another election as soon as possible to crush the Grits while they are still broke.

That could lead to a voter backlash. I think its safe to say this minority government will last a long time. By themselves, all the other parties are a good distant second to the Conservatives and they don't get along very well.

No killer instinct up there I guess? Must be due to that relative lack of passion noted upthread.

The best. Since I am of Scots descent, I can tell you that Cape Breton is alive and well in Glasgow, or did I get that backwards? Same humor on both sides of the pond.

Last time I was in Scotland, the second day I dropped in to the neighborhood Glasgow pub the bar keep remembered my brew and was pullinig it before my arse was on the stool.

I wonder if Cape Bretoners know that they would be right at home in Scotland. I imagine they do. I felt very much at home there.

Hey fanfan!

Well, nice to wake up under conservative leadership again.

If I EVER make my way up to Ottawa (that’s where you are, right?), I PROMISE we will go out for that dinner. It was my treat, wasn’t it? :^)

Good Morning Fan Fan,hope your riding is a nice blue hue today.I think we may very well ,very slowly be turning the great canadian ship to the RIGHT course.I think PMSH incremental approach is correct especially with a media that is set on demonizing him.
But even that is starting to crumble. My 24 yr old daughter who is not a politico at all(quit the opposite) called me in a huff last night incensed by the bias of the TV coverage mostly CTV she said. She is writing a letter to complain about their coverage and how they were all basicallly saying the Conservatives had lost notwithstanding her lying eyes looking at their increased #s.HAHAHAHA! The scales are falling from their eyes even the 18-25 group know the MSM are just another infomercial!

Yes, we are blue too.

Did you see this?

Frustrated Dion lashes out at CTV.

Your daughter is not alone. LOL.

Really funny clip... he is done like dinner.
I’m glad I escaped the vile coverage being locked up counting. I think I would have a broken tv today. FR and other conservative sites have really helped the survival rate of my TVs and also....my sanity.
Congratulations on your win!

Thanks NL.

We have Gordon O’Connor, and he won in another landslide.

Did you hear if Justin Trudeau won or lost?
