Never has the selection of a homecoming queen sent so many tears falling so freely.

Kristin Pass, an 18-year-old senior with Down syndrome, became Aledo High School's homecoming queen Friday to a joyous standing ovation and the flutter of a thousand tissues on a remarkable night for an amazing young woman.

Her grandfather, Dr. David Campbell of Corsicana, escorted her onto the field and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek as Kristin joined eight other young women in the Homecoming Court to await the results of the vote, cast by the 360-plus members of Aledo High's senior class.

Nobody accused YOU of worshipping anyone and I don’t want to hijack this thread with regard to Palin. That being said, I respectfully agree to disagree with you on this.

Thanks for the story!! It was the best thing I’ve read in a long time. I have a wonderful nephew, Matt, with Down’s Syndrome who is in his first year of college at the College of New Jersey. he has done so much - he has helped Charlie Crist pass a law to help disability awareness in Florida. He scored in the top 30% in math and science in Florida. Matt is my hero. He has the wit of Jay Leno and he is so much fun to be around. He was cool to McCain. He was mad Rudy didn’t get the nomination (LOL) , but when Sarah Palin came on board - Matt was thrilled!!!

You should consider a new screen name. The one you are using seems inaprpriate for someone as thoughtfull as you.

Congratulations to Kristin and her wonderful classmates!

I do not mean to be off topic, but take it as the compliment it is...

This town is going to have a busy real-estate market with people flocking here to raise their kids near great kids (and my extension their parents) like these.......

He used it against his parents for a while...everytime they told him to do something, he replied, "I'm the king!"

"Hey, it's good to be da king!"

“I have a daughter-in-law and two nieces that would never, ever, consider aborting a child, nor do they feel that anyone else should under any circumstances. They are all registered democrats and the nieces have done campaign work for democrats.”

Wow. What do they think the ‘rats stand for that’s more important than life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness ?

I don't claim to have all of the answers about their political beliefs, but perhaps where they live has something to do with it. You see, they (and their parents for that matter) were raised in the South. Down here there exist democrats that are far more conservative than many republicans in the northeast.

My husband and I have several friends that are democrats, but they are also conservative, thoughtful people. Not all democrats are pro-abortion either, which has been suggested more than once in the comments upthread. The are not hate-spewing, green-headed monsters. They also tend to vote for the republican in the presidential contests, even though their choices in the primary are limited to dems because we have a closed system in Louisiana.
