Barack Hussein Obama, a devout Christian politician running for president, is not and never has been a Muslim.
But even Muslim voters seem to understand reasons for the clear distance he's trying to put between himself and them.
"The Muslim community is sophisticated enough to know how politics work in this country, the nuances of politics and what people have to know to get elected," said Ali Khan, the executive director for the American Muslim Council, a Muslim advocacy organization based in Chicago. "I think Barack Obama is getting a pass."
Muslims make up less than 1 percent of the electorate not so much less than the tally of Jewish voters but they are seldom courted and carry little clout. By contrast the country's 6.1-million Jews, which make up roughly 2 percent of the population, are a highly sought-after constituency. The country's 2-million to 6-million Muslims demographers say the exact number is hard to pin down are largely ignored by politicians who fear a backlash from associating with them.
In a post-9/11 America, thanks to extremists and terrorists, many people view Islam with great distrust and disdain and sometimes make little distinction between mainstream Muslims and terrorists.
For months, Obama's campaign has worked hard to explain that he's a Christian without alienating Muslims themselves. But there have been rough patches. In June, campaign workers asked two Muslim women to switch seats at an Obama rally in Detroit. The women's error? They sat behind the lectern wearing hijabs, or head scarves, in plain view of television cameras. Obama later apologized for the snub.
While the brush-off got little more than scant mention in mainstream media coverage, Muslims around the country took note.

“Devout Christian.”
You betcha.
MM
Agreed. I pray that I am wrong, but I do not think I will be seeing Mr. Obama listed in the Book of Life. Clearly the MSM does not comprehend what being a “devout” Christian really means.
Christians do not murder babies.
I don’t know about you, but as a devout Christian myself I am always referencing ‘my muslim faith’ on the Sunday morning show with George Steph.
Sorry. Just couldn’t get past the first sentence.
Barack Hussein Obama, a devout Christian politician running for president, is not and never has been a Muslim.
A devout CHRISTIAN??
Obama?? Shirely you jest...........
Devout Christians do not favor murdering babies. Obama does.
End of story.....
“a devout Christian politician running for president, is not and never has been a Muslim”, except when he was registered as a Muslim in a Catholic school and prayed at a Mosque regularly. From an interview in the New York Times a few months ago, “Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent.”

Saying that a man is a “devout Christian”, when he carries the Hindu “monkey god” in his pocket for luck, is a real joke.
That's the only explanation, otherwise they would threaten to cut his neck like ever other convert.
I have seen no manifestation in Obama of being what anyone would consider "devout". After more than a quarter century of no discernable Christianity, he took up with Wright's congregation in South Chicago. Wright is unapologetic about being a proponent of Black Liberation Theology. After considerable controversy, Obama cut his ties with Wright, but will wait until after the election to tell us where he's going to "worship" next, although it's clear he used his church as a political base and a source of African authenticity.
Meanwhile, he occasionally tosses out a little random "obscure" scripture, but nothing like a credible testimonial to the Lord.
As for never having been a Muslim, he was considered so by his African family, he was registered in the Indonesian public schools as a Muslim by his adoptive stepfather, and his teachers recall him receiving Muslim instruction. For the record, I don't hold that against him, as he was a child. I do hold lies against him. Thou shall not bear false witness.
Regardless his early years, I’m not gonna jump on the Obama is a muslim bandwagon.
I will say that I believe he is sympatico with the muzzies and would screw the Jews and Israel were he unrestrained. His telling the Jews he’s on their side is pure crap.
Yesterday, as I was going into a Chinese grocery store in downtown Cleveland, a Muslima was leaving. She was in full regalia! Black tent, black headscarf, very arab features. As she drove away, I noticed the bumper stickers on her car. “McCain/Palin” 4 stickers! Needless to say, I was quite surprised!
That’s as far as I got before hollering “Bullsqueeze!” and abandoning the article.
LOL... when will they leave him alone!
Not bad. Two lies in the very first sentence.
Never been a Muslim? He was born a Muslim, adopted by a Muslim father, entered in school as a Muslim, studied the Qran, attended Muslim services in a mosque, and recited the Muslim prayers that make you a Muslim if you say them. Christian? When he never saw a baby he didn't want to kill? When he wants to destroy marriage and the family? When he belongs to a church that gives him a political entree with it's Black Muslim style faith?
This reporter wouldn't recognize a Christian if he tripped over him.
Yeah, “devout” really caught my eye there. If the left really believed Obama was a ‘devout’ Christian they wouldn’t support him.
Obama and the Jews both share the memory of the Holocaust. Although where the Jews remember an atrocity, Obama sees unfinished work.
Yes, indeed, "devout Christian" Barack Hussein Obama uses the Sermon on the Mount to justify homosexual marriages ... yet doesn't explain how he was able to twist the Word to extract the 'Obama doctrine.' And yes, a 'devout Christian' is going to refer to any passage of Scripture that he doesn't agree with - particularly one found in the Book of Romans - as "obscure"...
I don't know what this abortion lover is, but he's not a Christian. We should pray that he becomes one - through repentance and belief in God's Word - but his actions and words today place in league with the anti-Christians, more so than with Christians (nominal or devout)...
