Roughnecks, slathered head to toe in mud, scrambled and cursed a blue streak as they threw chain and tripped out two-ton stands of pipe. D.G., a.k.a. "Stretch," a good-natured chain hand, weighed in with a salvo of riotously profane slander, largely addressed to his fellow oil drillers. It could have pinned back the ears of the most depraved drill sergeant on earth. It could have peeled paint.

I had joined these characters on the Stillwater Project oil rig because, against the back-drop of a global energy crisis, I was hoping to witness the moment when a rock hound named Mark Herndon found out whether he could actually strike oil by drilling horizontally beneath a small Oklahoma city.

To me what was fascinating here is what a basic crap shoot drilling for oil is. A real gamble. You try to reduce the risks, but up to the very moment of truth, it still is a gigantic gamble. Oilmen deserve the profits they make considering the risk they take to find the oil. This was a real eye opening view of what it takes to “strike oil”.
Was thinkin same thing, ya know the govt needs to squash this fool!!!!!! We must not have individual entrepreneur’s, this must be squashed, did the govt provide funds?
congress won’t have to. some of the local liberal nutcases from the college (Oklahoma State University) will surely put a stop to it. Boone Pickens has pumped so much money into OSU the last several years (new athletic facilities, new buildings and so on), that Okies laughingly call Stillwater - Boone’s Farm..........regards - red
That was certainly great but they had me ready to climb the walls at the end on clock management. Hoping to see more of this at Boone Pickens Stadium as I am a season ticket holder.
