McCain tussles with Palin over whipping up a mob mentality
The Sunday Times ^ | October 12, 2008 | Sarah Baxter

Posted on 10/11/2008 9:45:26 PM PDT by Bratch

With his electoral prospects fading by the day, Senator John McCain has fallen out with his vice-presidential running mate about the direction of his White House campaign.

McCain has become alarmed about the fury unleashed by Sarah Palin, the moose-hunting “pitbull in lipstick”, against Senator Barack Obama. Cries of “terrorist” and “kill him” have accompanied the tirades by the governor of Alaska against the Democratic nominee at Republican rallies.

Mark Salter, McCain’s long-serving chief of staff, is understood to have told campaign insiders that he would prefer his boss, a former Vietnam prisoner of war, to suffer an “honourable defeat” rather than conduct a campaign that would be out of character – and likely to lose him the election.

“I’ll believe McCain is “tussling” with Palin when I see heel marks on his forehead.”

Now we’re talking :)

it’s over if we don’t vote for him

You've got that right. I've got a hunch that the race is a lot closer than the polls and Obama loving media indicate and the race will come down to turnout.

If I read this correctly, either way McCain looses?

What the HELL kind of advice or objective is that?

McCain needs to fire this pansy a$$ if I am to believe this quote.

“”I'm a Barry Goldberg conservative and long-time fan of Russ Linbow,”

LOL

That explains a lot! They ought to quote some of the wing-nuts at Team Obama rallies! Goldwater wanted to nuke the little girl picking the daisy and Rush Linbow hates black football players. ;0)

"And we want McCain to NAME NAMES in this Fannie/Freddie meltdown!"

EXACTLY!

He promised to name names, and make then famous.

The FM/FM issue is what he needs to press.

Don’t sweat it. This story is a fabrication by Barry’s friends in that electoral powerhouse known as Europe.

Kerry was up 5% at this time in the last campaign, and Gore was up 11% at this time in 2000.

Polls don’t matter.

The mob mentality at that townhall which gave the media their whole new “McCain Campaign making people angry” storyline wasn’t about Ayers anyway. The big story was about the guy who was steamed over the socialist take over of our country.

We ourselves need to drag him across the finish line.

The McCain campaign is reminiscent of GHWBush's re-election campaign. It wasn't happening. He wasn't doing much. Republicans were wondering why he wasn't battling. Finally, about 2 weeks before the election, he started to show some life. By then, it was all over but the inauguration parties -- for Clinton.

A short time after the election a reporter did an interview with him. One of the questions the reported asked was why Bush didn't mount a more aggressive re-election campaign.

Bush reponded that he thought, being the incumbent, he had the election in the bag and didn't see much need in really campaigning.

McCain needs to show some assertiveness, some aggression, some fight, some spirit. He is running a lackluster campaign.

McCain needs to wake up to the fact that this young, inexperienced, short-term junior senator defeated Mrs. Inevitable and the Clinton Machine for the Democratic nomination. McCain acts like they are running for high school student council president.

I saw Sarah’s speech today, where among other things she raised the abortion issue and completely eviscerated Obama on this issue (including mentioning the dreaded word “infanticide.”). In my opinion, she is by far the best communicator on either ticket. She has the powerful persuasive ability of a person who combines formidable public speaking skills with the right core values and the common sense rationality of a person who knows the truth and has the courage to speak it out loud. Neither McCain, Obama, nor Biden can match it or even come close. It is almost unfair to criticize McCain using Sarah Palin as the standard.

Well this NG either has Obama shills or chicken little defeatists who never did GOTV for a GOP candidate.

Go to McCain-Palin HQ in your town and volunteer. I made 2000 + calls for Bush in 2004 because I loathed Kerry. Unless you volunteer then stuff the freaking deafeatism and hand ringing on a story that is blatant unsourced propaganda.

Some mo*ons are falling right into crappy Times of London disinformation trap.

Also while you are hand wringing, get your credit card out and donate some dough to McCain like I have been doing.

Don't by in to any of this crap. It's amazing how many people complain about the msm and then slavishly fall for their jive. The left is smart they know their enemy is easily demoralized and confused.

The only words that he actually spoke were “honourable defeat”. He could have been talking about the Toledo and Michighan game today for all that you and I know.

It's worse than that. The quote itself is laundered. Nobody is claiming to have heard it.

The punch line from this so-called story is delivered by a Drive-By reporter who heard this gossip from God-knows-who, who heard it from "campaign insiders", who herd it supposedly from Mark Salter who herd it supposedly from John McCain.

Who are these so-called "campaign insiders"? Even the reporter doesn't claim to have gotten this so-called quote directly from the so-called "insiders".

The entire story is pathetic.

This is pathetic reporting - our country is truly being stolen.

It was documented and reported on Breitbart.tv that the people who were screaming the threats were OBAMA SUPPORTERS outside the even in Florida and NOT Republican supporters.

They could also be Agent Provocateurs ala the Soviet Union - which is really, the Neo-Soviet Union now under the Self-Avowed Communist Putin (who released remarks today from a COMMUNIST PARTY MEETING).

Regardless, the press is complicit in covering up the truth about Barack Obama.

On that we’ll agree.

I erred when strocked out the original note.

Hang loose, bro.

We got 2 winners in Senator McCain and Governor Palin.

This whole piece is designed as a set-up to get good folks who support the McCain/Palin ticket jawing at each other.

Not being a long-time McCain supporter, I certainly don't like the way his campaign is running, but in McCain's defense, the last debate (??) did not offer any reasonable opening to hit hard on nobama’s connections. Brokaw knew exactly what he was doing. Not sure what next Tuesday's debate format will be, hoping it is such that Mc can spill the beans on nobama.

No--they are creating it out of thin air.
