Somehow when it comes to money (which is a commodity whose purpose is to serve as a means of exchange), people ONLY trust the government and we can ONLY have one type of currency. No competing currencies, no fluctuating currencies, no private coinage...

I find that ironic because of how governments usually end up destroying their money unit (debasement or inflation).

” Ron Paul voted for most favored nation trade status for China.

So did McCain, your point?

Are you going to hold it against one and not the other? “

Yes, McCAin did. Which proves he’s as STUPID as Ron Paul.

That is one of the best posts I’ve read in a long time.

Thank you!

That’s the the broken window fallacy exposed more than 150 years ago by Bastiat. The taxpayers, had they had been able to keep, would have spent that money creating jobs in the private sector. The government can’t create jobs (military or domestic government) out of thin air. There may be good arguments for maintaining troops in over 100 countries but creating new jobs isn’t one of them.””

Fine if you believe Bastiat, some people don’t. I did not state the goal of the military was to create jobs, but having a state-of-the-art military is necessary for our survival and the jobs are a primary side benefit. There are also many spin-off benefits to the rest of society in terms of technology gains. You forgot about all the private sector jobs that build the equipment MADE IN USA.

Yes. Gold and silver would likely drive out the dollar if the government continued to print and inflate it into oblivion. It wouldn’t be so much of a problem then because we would have readily available gold and silver as accepted means of exchange. Eventually we banks would produce bank notes for gold and silver (receipts) and people would trade the receipts instead of carrying around the actual coins. This is what the dollar WAS... a WEIGHT of gold (originally silver... private coinage I might add). This means you could only have as many dollars as you did their representative value in gold. It was about 20 dollars for an ounce.

No one is arguing the military is unnecessary. It’s just that to say it creates jobs is misleading. But I agree, there have been a lot of good things to come out of the military not related specifically to war.

Right, so now with gold at say $1,000.00 an oz.

So we could actually go back to where it should be.

Thank you. I would never have been so interested in monetary policy if it weren’t for Ron Paul’s campaign. Regardless of whether he should have won or not, I’m extremely glad he ran.

:) I'm not upset.

I get what you're saying economically, but that's also why I'm not a stickler for the commodity upon which we base the value of our currency being only gold. I'm up for other commodities of intrinsic value, or, if it's feasible, a mixed bag of valuable commodities. I see what you're saying about the GDP to some extent, but I think I still prefer the concreteness and stability of a purely commodities (rather than growth-based) currency value.

As to foreign affairs, I wonder sometimes what people mean when they say "do nothing." What exactly is it that people (yourself included) think it is that we're supposed to do? The only things that come of large standing armies (particularly when they are placed on the sovereign territory of other nations) are counterproductive, unjust wars. We end up fighting the wrong people at the wrong times for the wrong reasons. I do NOT believe our military should have permanent bases in other countries. Our military should be maintained at home and kept ready in case of a real threat (not a weak little tinpot like Saddam), shrunk in terms of personnel when circumstances allow, focused on efficiency and technological and tactical development, and should be busy patrolling our coastal waters and our land borders.

I hope Texas is as safe as you say it is. Guess I spend too much time in Austin...

Just let’s not take any foolish chances, okay?

One of the satellite radio shows I advertise on, Derry Brownfield Show, are big supporters of Ron Paul. That is where I first learned about him. I have read pretty much everything he has written.

Who cares?

He called this mess years ago and is the only person I've seen in congress to actually stand up for what he believes 100% of the time. He's our most conservative member in the entire government and has more integrity in his one finger than the rest put together. It was Bush and the others that had unprecedented control of government and allowed the minority party to beat them up and to retake control because the Republicans (other than Paul) decided to out-liberal the liberals. Then, when Paul actually stood up against the hype during the primaries, we called him a nut and a cook because he said we can't afford to attack Iran because of the money mess and we all called him a cook because "the GDP was growing and the fundamentals of our economy are strong." But who was right? I'll never let anybody convince me that Dr. Paul is anything but a true, conservative patriot that is a champion of the constitution.

If Ron Paul would admit that there is a serious global Islamic threat and propose a way to fight it, rather than standing around hoping for the best, maybe people would vote for him

THANK YOUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!

I solved the whole problem. unplugged TV in March. It’s still unplugged.

I proposed this last year to my wife and she thought I had gone nuts. But, after discussing over and over, she agreed to try it out. We have never been happier. We now go out and do things and the kids have lost weight and become healthy because now they actually go outside and play. I will never buy another TV again.

Ron Paul is a tool for them and I ignore him.

Yeah, and the others in our party have proven to do so well in protecting our freedoms, constitution, and conservative ways of life. /sarcasm

If Dr. Paul is a true conservative, he’ll get out there and ask his supporters to vote for Macain-Palin. Put Country first, like a true conservative. Dr. Ron Paul is a good man,but he doesn’t have a prayer of winning this election. A vote for Ron Paul is a vote for Barack Obama. This country doesn’t need a Communist for President, or the people who Obama will bring with him.

We are in a battle for the soul of America. This is no time to fracture the Republican Party. If we lose this one, we may never get the chance to take back our government.

You’ve seen what these people can do, voter fraud run rampant, censorship of anyone who doesn’t agree with them, they used the Federal Government to fund their leftest organizations. They’ll try and take our guns away, and tape our mouths shut. Is that what you want?

This is no time for divison. It’ll mean the death of Liberty and Freedom in this Country. Think about it.
