Far-right Austria governor isolates asylum seekers
Far-right Gov. Joerg Haider has set up a facility in the remote mountains of southern Austria to handle asylum seekers suspected as criminals, saying they need to be isolated to protect the people in the area.
.....
In last month's elections, Haider's party received 10.7 percent and the far-right Freedom Party gained 17.5 percent of the vote. The combined results - 28.2 percent - placed the parties on nearly equal footing with the Social Democrats, who came in first place with 29.3 percent.
I know too little about the ins and outs of Austrian politics, but I would guess that initially at least there would be an outpouring of sympathy for the BZÖ and it may put pressure on the other parties in the coalition negotiations.
The BZÖ will hold a press conference in about one hour.
Haider was a divisive figure, who gained notoriety after he became leader of the Freedom Party in 1986. ... In 2000, the EU imposed sanctions against Austria in a protest over his party's role in government.
I think that boycott had more to do with his anti-EU stance which is one of the principles BZO and FPO run on.
Der Dienstwagen wurde völlig zerstört
Vienna - Joerg Haider is dead, the Carinthian governor came into the night with his car from the federal Loiblpass in the town of Lambichl and suffered in the accident fatal head and chest injuries. The family wanted there on the 90th weekend Mother of Haider's birthday celebration that is specifically from Upper Austria had come to Carinthia.
Exact cause of accident unclear
Exactly how the accident happened was still unclear. Shortly before the crash, the governor overtaken another car, whose Lenkerin around 1:18 clock reported the accident. Press Conference by 10 clock
For details on the accidental death of Joerg Haider on Saturday in the morning a press conference convened at short notice, as the Executive Chairman of Carinthia BZÖ-Stefan Petzner announced. At the press conference at the Hall of Mirrors of Carinthia, in addition Petzner LHStv. Our governor is now at least temporarily Haider's deputy Gerhard villager. Who manages the BZÖ, was still unknown. Haider's deputy in the alliance were Secretary Stefan Petzner and former Defense Minister Herbert Scheibner.
"For us, this is like a doomsday"
Especially the BZÖ showed about Haider's death shocked. "For us, this is like a doomsday," said Petzner. Villagers said that in Carinthia were "the sun from the sky" and "stopped the clocks tonight." Haider's predecessor as Wärtsilä-umpire Peter Westenthaler praised the governor as "one of the greatest politicians of the postwar Austrian history."
But also from other political side tributes were appropriate. FPÖ-president Heinz-Christian Strache, who most recently with Haider again halfway zusammengerauft had appeared shocked: "With his death the Republic loses a great politician." SPÖ chief Werner Faymann Haider called an "exceptional politician." -Umpire ÖVP Josef Pröll emphasized that no other Austrian domestic politics in recent decades have dominated so. The Federal Open designate spokeswoman Eva Glawischnig described Haider as one of the most influential political figures in Austria's domestic politics in recent decades, but have also decided polarized.
On this aspect Federal President Fischer also pointed out. At the same time the head of state stressed that Haider a "politician with great talents" have been with his political actions can have enthusiasm. Chancellor Alfred Gusenbauer underlined that Haider as governor for many years not only the Carinthian politics decisively influenced, but also the entire Austrian domestic political landscape for decades have dominated.
Accident 15 years ago
Joerg Haider would have been nearly 15 years ago a car accident victims. On 4 August 1993 he came with his car in the municipality of Maria Rain from the federal Rosental from. The white BMW flew on an embankment, a Telegrafenmast bends and stayed next to the road leading parallel tracks are located. This accident Haider survived with only a small bump on the head, although most cars had severe damage. He led the relatively glimpflichen output due to the fact that he always ride buckled. Please no one expect me to cry fake tears over this nasty Austrian Nazi.
He was never President. He was state leader of “Kaernten” and participated in a coalition government with the OeVP. And it wasn’t only the left going nuts (rightfully for once).
Quite right - this was the other side of Haider. However, this is what you get when the “main stream” politicians refuse to take responsibility for some of their most important - and unpopular - policies: immigration and EU-integration.
On these questions Haider was a representative for his voters and many others in the rest of Europe who do not have any political representatives at all.
In relation to the Middle East (apart from the fact that he did not want “them” here) his opinions were actually in concordance with most European politicians including his anti-Israeli stand and anti-Semitic leanings.
According to the “murder the own agemts or not” divide line, you can divide political murders in two basic types:
- the Annas type (Lindh, Politskaya);
- the other type.
This second type, can be divided basically into two subtypes. according to the “directly linked to the control of the political system or not” line:
- the Diana type;
- the other type, from the Kennedys to Haider.
From the picture it looks rainy, and cold out. Have you heard what the weather conditions were like at the time of the accident?
This is amazingly “convenient” given last week’s election.
The VW Phaeton is a very fast car, limited to 155MPH http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Phaeton
If one made a mistake, it would be easy to get killed. It is interesting that there is the possibility of a witness being available. Anyway it is a tragedy for anti Communist politics in Austria.

This photo was released. The man driving the car which side-swiped Haidar resembles the man who—dressed as a guard—brought Slobodan Milosevic his last meal.
